What is the job role?

This is an exciting opportunity to support families in making safe decisions and plans for their children through a Family Group Conference. This is a key, proven way to strengthen family involvement and relational ways of working to achieve the best outcomes for children when families are experiencing significant problems in their lives.

As a Family Group Conference Coordinator, you will facilitate the Family Group Conference, bringing together children’s support networks of family members and friends to find safe solutions.

You will need to be experienced in working with Children and Families, able to work independently, and committed to the empowerment of families.

This post is fixed-term until March 28.

This post is exempted under the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 and as such appointment to this post will be conditional upon the receipt of a satisfactory response to a check of police records via Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS).

Who are we looking for?

To be successful in this role, you will need the following skills, knowledge and experience:

  • A professional relevant qualification and proven experience working with children and families
  • Educated to first-degree level and /or relevant qualification in a relevant field
  • Sound knowledge and understanding of the principles and processes of Family Group Conferencing and of relational practice with families including solution-focused and strength-based practice
  • Ability to promote and facilitate the participation of children and their families, ensuring their views and needs are central to service delivery and outcomes
  • Ability to take a neutral role whilst relating well to children, young people and their families - to mediate, negotiate and promote family-based problem solving
  • Have effective communication and active listening skills; the ability to work creatively and flexibly and communicate effectively at all levels with a range of individuals, in a variety of different manners, on complex or legal issues
  • Ability to co-ordinate, facilitate and chair complex meetings
