Head of Family Lawyer

Head of Family Lawyer Position Overview:

  • Lead, develop and grow a well-established and respected Family department
  • Advise on complex, high-value privately funded family matters, including substantial assets and complex financial arrangements
  • Shape the strategic direction and future of the team
  • Support and mentor colleagues while maintaining high standards of client care
  • Genuine leadership responsibility with strong opportunities for development

Key Responsibilities of the Head of Family Lawyer:

  • Managing a varied caseload of privately funded family matters, including divorce, financial remedy and children arrangements, from instruction through to resolution
  • Advising clients on complex and high-value financial matters with sensitivity and professionalism
  • Conducting detailed legal research and case analysis, liaising with experts, counsel and the courts
  • Providing empathetic, client-focused support and keeping clients informed throughout
  • Leading and developing the Family team, fostering a positive and collaborative environment
  • Supervising and mentoring junior staff, apprentices and trainee solicitors
  • Driving business development through referrer relationships, networking and marketing events
  • Contributing to the strategic direction and growth of the department

Requirements of the Head of Family Lawyer:

  • Qualified Solicitor, Chartered Legal Executive or equivalent with significant privately funded family law expertise (typically around 8 years' experience or more)
  • Demonstrable experience advising clients with substantial assets and complex financial arrangements
  • Strong leadership qualities with the ability to develop and grow a team
  • Excellent client care skills with an empathetic and commercially minded approach
  • Effective negotiation and strategic thinking skills
  • A collaborative team player with a passion for delivering outstanding client care
  • Business development ability and a proactive approach to growing the department
