Family Liaison & Governance Officer

We are seeking an experienced and compassionate Family Liaison & Governance Officer to join the Trust on a part-time basis, in a trust-wide position sitting within the Nursing and Quality Directorate. This is a unique and influential role that combines patient safety, governance expertise, and family-centred support following serious patient safety incidents and unexpected deaths.

About the Role

The Family Liaison & Governance Officer will work as part of the Quality Governance Team, and will function as the Trust’s lead specialist in family liaison and relational patient safety practice, providing expert advice and support to support families, friends, and carers through the difficult process of an investigation into an unexpected death or significant patient safety incident which has occurred within a service provided by the Trust, promoting equality, diversity, and inclusion in all aspects of service delivery.

Responsibilities

  • Support the Associate Director of Quality Governance & Risk, Head of Quality Governance, patient safety colleagues, and service lines, with the overview and coordinating function for leading and developing the Trust approach to supporting families, friends, and carers post a patient safety incident.
  • Lead and contribute to the local delivery of the Patient Safety Incident Response Framework and Learning from Patient Safety Events, ensuring we meet system-wide and national requirements and expectations particularly around the engagement of those affected following a significant incident.
  • Work across the Trust and with external partners, including Coroners, legal representatives, and healthcare providers, to help shape and embed a culture of learning, transparency, and continuous improvement in line with the Patient Safety Incident Response Framework (PSIRF) and Duty of Candour requirements.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
