Emmersons Solicitors Limited is a multi-award-winning law firm with offices in Newcastle and Sunderland, offering specialist support across family law, conveyancing, private client, motoring, and criminal defence matters. The firm provides expert assistance with divorce, separation, child custody, and pensions, often using collaborative law approaches to resolve disputes outside of court where possible. Its conveyancing team supports residential and commercial property transactions and business leases, while the private client team advises on wills, probate, lasting powers of attorney, and Court of Protection matters, with many staff trained as Dementia Friends and members of Solicitors for the Elderly. The firm also has dedicated motoring and criminal defence solicitors who represent clients across the North, helping protect their livelihoods and rights through tailored legal advice and representation.
Role Description
The Family Paralegal will support the family law team with cases involving divorce, separation, financial settlements, and child arrangements. Day-to-day responsibilities include:

The role involves liaising with clients, counsel, experts, and third parties, obtaining and organizing evidence, and assisting with court and mediation preparations. The Family Paralegal will also help with client onboarding, document review, legal research, and the efficient progression of matters under supervision of solicitors.
This is a full-time, on-site role based in Newcastle upon Tyne.
Qualifications
- Strong family law knowledge and experience, including divorce, financial remedies, and child arrangements, with the ability to apply relevant procedures and court rules.
- Excellent legal drafting, document preparation, and file management skills, including proficiency with case management software and Microsoft Office applications.
- Effective client care and communication skills, with the ability to handle sensitive matters, maintain professionalism, and work with clients from diverse backgrounds.
- Sound research, analytical, and problem-solving abilities to support solicitors in case preparation and strategy.
- Strong organizational and time-management skills, with the ability to manage multiple files, meet deadlines, and work accurately under pressure.
- Ability to work collaboratively within a small team and also operate independently with appropriate supervision.
- Previous experience as a family paralegal or in a similar legal support role is highly desirable.
- Relevant legal qualifications such as a law degree, LPC/SQE, or a recognized paralegal qualification are beneficial.
- Commitment to confidentiality, ethical practice, and continuous professional development.
