Family Solicitor – Private Client & High Net Worth | Team Lead
Central London | Chancery Lane | Office-based | Competitive salary + performance bonus
A well-established and growing London law firm is seeking an experienced Family Solicitor / Team Lead to join its busy private family department.
This is an excellent opportunity for a senior family lawyer who enjoys handling sophisticated private client work, developing client relationships, and taking responsibility for the performance and development of a small team.
The successful candidate will manage their own caseload of high-net-worth and complex family matters while providing supervision and guidance to junior lawyers and support staff.
The Role
You will be responsible for managing a varied caseload of private family matters, with a particular emphasis on high-value financial and complex cases.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Managing a caseload of private family matters from instruction through to conclusion
- Advising high-net-worth individuals on complex financial and family issues
- Handling divorce and separation matters
- Managing high-value financial remedy cases involving property, business interests, trusts, pensions, and other significant assets
- Advising on pre-nuptial and post-nuptial agreements
- Dealing with child arrangements and other private children matters
- Handling applications for protective and injunctive orders
- Advising on cohabitation disputes and separation arrangements
- Dealing with international and cross-border family law matters where required
- Drafting pleadings, applications, agreements, correspondence, and other legal documentation
- Providing clear, commercially focused, and sensitive advice to clients

- Supervising solicitors, paralegals, and/or trainees
- Reviewing work and ensuring consistently high standards
- Delegating matters appropriately and monitoring team workloads
- Coaching and mentoring less experienced members of the department
- Supporting appraisals, performance management, and professional development
- Assisting with recruitment, onboarding, and training
- Working with senior management on departmental performance and resource planning
Business Development & Billing
This is a commercially focused position, and the successful candidate will be comfortable working towards clear financial and performance objectives. You will:
- Conduct initial client consultations and convert enquiries into retained matters
- Develop strong relationships with new and existing clients
- Manage firm-generated leads and enquiries promptly
- Meet agreed personal billing and revenue targets
- Support the team in achieving departmental targets
- Maintain accurate time recording and billing
- Identify opportunities for referrals and cross-departmental work
- Develop repeat business and professional/client referral relationships
About You
We are looking for an experienced Family Solicitor who combines strong technical ability with excellent client management and commercial awareness.
Essential experience
- Qualified Solicitor with the right to practise in England & Wales and a current practising certificate
- Strong experience in private family law
- Significant experience of complex financial remedy work, preferably involving high-net-worth clients
- Previous experience supervising, mentoring, or managing other legal professionals
- Excellent delegation, organizational, and quality-control skills
- Experience working with financially sophisticated or high-profile clients
- Strong client-facing and relationship-building abilities
- Demonstrable experience converting enquiries or consultations into paying clients
- Comfortable working towards billing, revenue, and performance targets
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Right to work in the UK

Desirable
The following would be advantageous:
- Previous experience as a Team Leader, Supervisor, or Head of Family
- Experience of international or cross-border family law
- Experience with mediation, collaborative law, or Resolution
- An established professional referral network or client following
- Additional language skills
- Experience using modern legal case management systems
