This is an excellent opportunity for a solicitor who is passionate about access to justice and enjoys working directly with clients who may be vulnerable, distressed or facing urgent and challenging family circumstances.
The role will involve managing a predominantly Legal Aid-funded family law caseload, with particular emphasis on domestic abuse and children matters.
The Role
You will take responsibility for your own caseload and provide high-quality legal advice and representation to clients throughout their matters. Your work is likely to include:
- Domestic abuse cases, including non-molestation and occupation orders
- FL401 applications
- Children Act proceedings, including child arrangements, prohibited steps and specific issue applications
- Public law children work, including care and supervision proceedings where appropriate
- Divorce and separation matters
- Financial remedy work where Legal Aid funding is available
- Eligible cohabitation and property-related family disputes
- Urgent and emergency applications
- Court hearings, including without-notice applications where necessary
- Preparing applications, witness statements, orders, correspondence and other court documentation
- Preparing and managing court bundles
- Providing clear and practical advice to clients throughout their matter
You will be dealing with clients who may be experiencing domestic abuse, relationship breakdown, financial difficulties or other challenging circumstances, so empathy, resilience and excellent client-care skills are essential.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
