I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

An example would be 6am-9am/4.30pm-6.30pm (this is only an example and not an accurate reflection due to the requirement to meet the needs of the service). Some weekend work would also be expected on a rota basis, and you would be expected to work 5 from 7 days per week.
If you were working at the weekend, we would ensure that you had the equivalent time off during the week. Enhanced payments are also made before 6am and after 7pm. There are some tasks that will require the use of a laptop which DCC will provide, including a mobile phone.
Full training will be given for IT tasks. You will be required to have the confidence to professionally challenge when necessary and to liaise with other professionals/colleagues. An understanding and interest of the issues facing disabled young people is vital.
This post requires an entry level qualification of a ‘Level 2 Health and Social Care’ (or equivalent) and completion of The Care Certificate.
