Family Support Worker
Children Young People & Families (Targeted Support)
3 x 37 hours per week
Grade E
Plymouth City Council is seeking passionate and experienced practitioners to join our newly developing Adolescent Team. This specialist team supports young people at risk of extra-familial harm, including exploitation, missing from home and care episodes, harmful sexual behaviour, homelessness, serious youth violence, and contextual safeguarding concerns. Which sits in alignment with Plymouth Youth Justice Service of the Children, Young People and Families Service.
As a Family Support Worker, you will undertake a key role in offering Return Home Conversations to children who have been missing from home or care, and to help inform responses that will promote safety and prevent harm. The team along works alongside all colleagues in Children’s Services, but particularly the Youth Justice Service. As a result of these close links, you will be working alongside Social Workers, Professional Youth Workers, Family Help Lead Practitioners, Youth Justice Service, Police, Substance Misuse Workers, Education and Health Workers.
To apply for this role, you must be able to demonstrate good experience of successfully delivering a range of high-quality outcome focused interventions for our vulnerable and complex children and families. To help them to achieve and maintain excellent outcomes and enabling them to thrive. You will be working creatively, supporting assessments and utilising networks to put in place strengths-based plans to empower children and their families to achieve sustainable change. Whilst being part of a supportive team, that is focussed on developing a service that delivers the right support for children and families at the right time.

In return will support you with good quality supervision and training from our Academy. The ideal candidates will be able to demonstrate extensive experience of direct work, interventions with families and assessment skills alongside a strong values-based practice approach rooted in empathy, kindness and compassion.

A full UK driving license is desirable as you may be required to transport children and their families as part of your role.
Flexibility in working times and a willingness to travel both inside and occasionally outside of Plymouth are required for this role.
