Bury Children’s Services - Family Support Worker

Bury Children’s Services is seeking a compassionate and resilient Family Support Worker to join the Kinship Support Team. The position is a fixed term for 12 months, working 37 hours per week, with occasional evening or weekend work. The role will provide practical, emotional, and therapeutically informed support to Special Guardians, kinship carers, children, and young people, helping to promote placement stability, strengthen family relationships, and improve children’s emotional wellbeing.

Key Responsibilities

  • Work directly with families in homes, schools, and community settings
  • Offer one-to-one support, family sessions, creative direct work, and advice around trauma-informed and attachment-aware parenting
  • Contribute to support plans, promote children’s wishes and feelings
  • Liaise with social workers, schools, health professionals, and partner agencies
  • Respond appropriately to safeguarding concerns

Requirements

  • Experience supporting children, young people, and families, including those with complex needs
  • Knowledge of safeguarding, trauma, attachment, child development, Special Guardianship, and kinship care
  • Strong communication, relationship-building, organizational, record-keeping, and IT skills
  • Flexible, compassionate, and strengths-based approach
