Farm Liaison Officer

Location: Hillsborough, with travel throughout Northern Ireland
Salary: £38,000 per year
Hours: 37.5 hours per week
Contract: 18-month fixed-term contract, with the possibility of extension subject to performance and business need
Start date: Immediate start available

About AgriSearch

AgriSearch is a charitable organisation working to improve profitability and sustainability in ruminant livestock farming through science, research and innovation. We work with farmers, researchers and industry partners to turn research findings into practical approaches on farm.

About the role

Reporting to the UK-DCN Farm Network Manager, you will work closely with our established network of 20 dairy farms across Northern Ireland. You will support farmers in implementing and monitoring technologies and practices designed to reduce carbon emissions, alongside collecting accurate farm data.

Key responsibilities

  • Maintain effective relationships with participating farmers through regular on-farm engagement.
  • Work with project partners and technical advisers to develop, implement and monitor farm-specific action plans.
  • Support farmers in selecting and implementing measures to reduce emissions.
  • Collect farm data, complete data workbooks and support project partners with data processing.
  • Provide feedback to farmers and capture farm progress through case studies.
  • Work with finance and the Farm Network Manager to support the invoicing and payment of farmer participation and input costs.
  • Participate in project meetings and report progress to management.
  • Help organise workshops, farmer events and knowledge exchange activities, including website, social media and press content.

Essential criteria

  • A tertiary-level qualification in agriculture or a related discipline, or current study towards a relevant third-level qualification for applicants wishing to undertake the role as a placement student.
  • At least one year’s recent relevant experience in the dairy sector, including knowledge of day-to-day operations on commercial dairy farms.
  • An understanding of dairy systems in Northern Ireland and the factors affecting farms and the wider dairy industry.
  • An interest in applying technology within farming systems.
  • An interest in sustainable dairy farming solutions that improve efficiency and productivity.
  • Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, including the ability to handle conflict.
  • Ability to work independently and use your own initiative.
  • Ability to maintain farmer confidentiality.
  • Effective organisational skills, attention to detail and the ability to multitask.
  • A full valid driving licence and access to transport suitable for meeting the travel requirements of the role.

  • Experience of agricultural research and/or knowledge exchange with farmers.
