Softs Designer (Maternity Cover)

5 days per week on-site

About the role:

This is a fantastic opportunity for a Softs Designer looking to develop their career further within a fast-paced environment. You will be responsible for designing innovative and commercially viable ladieswear softs garments across multiple product categories. You will work closely with the design, sales, and production teams to develop ranges that are trend-led, price-aware, and tailored to client needs. This is a fixed term role, covering a Maternity Leave.

Main Responsibilities:

  • Research current trends and interpret them into commercially appealing softs designs for the wholesale market.
  • Design across core softs categories including tops, dresses, and co-ords.
  • Create clear and detailed CADs and tech packs using Adobe Illustrator.
  • Develop seasonal colour palettes, fabric direction, and trim details suitable for various customer profiles.
  • Liaise with the fabric sourcing team to select suitable softs bases and finishes.
  • Collaborate with in-house print designers to create bespoke graphics and prints.
  • Partner with the Sales team and work closely with the other departments.
  • Oversee the sample development process, ensuring fit, construction, and finish meet brand and customer standards.
  • Respond to customer briefs and adapt designs according to client feedback.
  • Attend meetings with buyers.
  • Work closely with sales and account managers to support client meetings and range presentations.
  • Stay informed on high street competitors and emerging softs wear trends.

Person Specification:

  • Previous experience working as a Fashion Designer, designing apparel as a supplier for a retailer
  • Experience designing apparel across Softs to fast fashion
  • Strong understanding of fashion / high street
  • Market/Trend Aware
  • Excellent Photoshop and Illustrator Skills
  • Good understanding of Excel
  • Can do attitude
  • Ability to work under pressure and work in a fast-paced environment working to tight deadlines
  • Strong communication and influencing skills across all levels
  • Self-motivation, Proactive and the ability to take the initiative and respond quickly to change
