The Opportunity
As a Fault Studies Engineer Graduate, you’ll earn a starting salary of £37,500 per annum and join our Science and Engineering Graduate Programme. The programme is expected to begin in early September 2027, when you'll join our graduate community and start building your career at EDF.
Over the course of this 16-month programme, you'll develop specialist expertise in fault studies, modelling and nuclear safety analysis. You'll help assess how nuclear power plants respond during operational events and fault conditions while supporting EDF’s journey towards An Electric Britain.
What You’ll Experience
As a Fault Studies Engineer Graduate, you'll gain hands-on experience using computational tools to model nuclear power stations and understand how they behave during a range of operating and fault scenarios. Your work will contribute directly to maintaining the safe and reliable operation of some of the UK's most important energy infrastructure.
- Perform simulations and technical analysis
- Assess the effectiveness of safety systems
- Support operational teams with advice that helps keep nuclear reactors operating safely and efficiently
The skills you develop will be applied across both operating stations and future nuclear projects.
During the programme, you'll have opportunities to work alongside teams including Reactor Physics, Hazards, Radiation Protection and Radiological Consequences, as well as operational teams responsible for the day-to-day running of nuclear sites. You'll also benefit from dedicated training in nuclear fundamentals, safety culture, human performance and reactor systems, helping you develop both technical expertise and professional confidence.
Location
Your primary base will be our Gloucester site, where you'll complete placements across a range of technical teams. Depending on your placements and project requirements, you'll also have opportunities to spend time at other EDF locations and sites across the business, giving you valuable insight into different parts of EDF.

Most placements require between three and five days per week on site. We'll provide practical and financial support to help make any placement-related relocation as smooth as possible and help you get the most from the programme.
Where This Programme Could Take You
Ross joined EDF's Science and Engineering Graduate Programme in 2023. During the scheme, he completed placements in accident management, transient analysis, hazards and nuclear safety, gaining experience across Gloucester, Bristol and Sizewell B Power Station. His work ranged from assessing gas flow paths within reactor buildings to supporting technical nuclear safety studies.
Today, Ross works as a Fault Studies Engineer, where he studies the consequences of potential reactor faults and helps ensure appropriate safety systems are in place to maintain nuclear safety. His role continues to provide opportunities to solve complex engineering challenges and develop specialist knowledge.

Who You Are
To be eligible for this EDF graduate programme, you need to have achieved, or be expecting to achieve, a 2:2 or higher in a Bachelor’s or Postgraduate degree in Physics, Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics or a related subject. You'll also have an interest in nuclear energy, technology and engineering analysis.
To be appointed to this role, you will need to meet the criteria for Security Vetting, which will, ordinarily, require you to have been a resident of the UK for at least three of the past five years.
Please note that an Assessment Centre stage of the hiring process will take place virtually on 10 November 2026. Applicants must be able to attend on this date to be considered for the programme.
