About the Role
This is a great opportunity to take the first steps in your hospitality career and work as part of our Restaurant and Bar Team at The Hogs Back Hotel & Spa. In a new era in hospitality, make your mark and really drive it forwards, embracing our ‘Ownership with Personality’ values.
We’re looking for a Restaurant and Bar Team Member that bring energy, curiosity and a can-do spirit. Someone who loves the buzz of service and the joy of making someone’s day.
Situated on a wooded ridge near Guildford, the Hog’s Back Hotel & Spa is a well-established destination offering a stylish restaurant and bar, leisure facilities, and 96 comfortable bedrooms. The hotel welcomes a wide range of guests, from leisure travellers to event and dining customers, creating a lively and customer-focused food and beverage environment.
How You'll Bring the Magic to the Floor as Our Restaurant and Bar Team Member:
- Has a positive, can-do attitude towards customers and other team.
- A genuine enthusiasm for learning about all things food and drink — including spirits, wines, cocktails, and delivering the “perfect serve”.
- A willingness to understand different food styles and service standards, learn the menus, and confidently explain dishes to customers.
- Strong communication skills and enjoyment of interacting with guests in a lively, fast-paced environment.
- The ability to deliver great service — taking orders, serving food and drink, processing payments, and ensuring every guest has an excellent experience.
- Commitment to meeting site service standards and working effectively as part of the team.
- A developing or good understanding of preparing coffees and serving alcohol and wine in both bar and restaurant settings.
- Availability to work opening and closing shifts, including weekends and bank holidays on a pro-rata basis.
- A willingness to continue your development through in-house and external training sessions.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
