Part-Time Fees Assistant

A leading commercial chambers is seeking a part-time Fees Assistant to join its finance team. You will support the Credit Control Manager in delivering an efficient billing and fee collection service.

Responsibilities

  • Producing fee notes and receipts
  • Processing payments to barristers
  • Assisting with credit control activities
  • Supporting the transition to a paperless filing system

This is an excellent opportunity to join a highly regarded set in a varied and important finance role.

Specific Obligations

Under the guidance of the Credit Control Manager, the Fees Assistant will be primarily responsible for:

  • Assisting the practice managers where necessary with the entry of barristers’ time
  • The production of fee notes from time billing on the appropriate cycle
  • The production of reminder fee notes where appropriate
  • The production of receipts for incoming payments including VAT receipts
  • The transmission of fees to barristers
  • The reconciliation of the Chambers bank account against the Lex system.
  • Some limited debt collection activity
  • Converting existing system to paperless and creating paperless archive

Person Specification

  • Appropriate tertiary qualifications – appropriate qualifications for advertised position
  • Fluency on the Lex system
  • Previous fee collection experience within a barrister’s chambers
  • Strong understanding of the key role of debt collection in business and in relationships
  • Strong communication skills, written and oral
  • Good telephone manner
  • Well organised with excellent attention to detail
  • Good numeracy and IT literacy
  • Enjoys excellent relationships with colleagues and principals
  • Highly trusted and trustworthy
  • Adaptable and responsive to feedback
  • Proactive and enthusiastic
  • Ability to work effectively under pressure, seeking support where necessary

Compensation

£35,000 pro-rata (25 hours per week - 5 days)
