Job Description
Hours: 13 hours per week, including weekends (to be arranged)
Area: Walkergate, Newcastle Upon Tyne
Rate: £14.50 per hour
Role Overview
Paul is a lovely gentleman who resides with his nana, he is looking to employ a personal assistant who will have a flexible approach to supporting him within the home and accessing the community.
Paul has a diagnosis of Autism, ADHD, Dyspraxia, and Sensory Processing Disorder, he also has a phobia to germs and is quite clinical in his hand washing routines which have caused psoriasis.
Paul is fitted with a colostomy bag which requires changing and managing. Experience of managing colostomy bags would be advantageous to this role. Experience of working with ASD is essential.
Responsibilities
- Personal Care: Assisting Paul with personal care, including showering if he chooses and beard maintenance, Paul will require prompts with choosing appropriate clothing and dressing but will indicate if clothes are unsuitable due to him being uncomfortable.
- Meal Preparation: Meal preparation will be included within your role, and the ability to coach and encourage Paul to prepare food himself will be required. You will assist and encourage Paul to complete online shopping orders to encourage his independence.
- Domestic Tasks: Some light domestic tasks may be required including, laundry and bed changing.
- Accompaniment: You would be expected to accompany Paul to such trips; you would also be required to accompany him to scheduled appointments and assist Paul in making appointments for himself. Paul will venture to the Metro Centre on occasions and enjoys a KFC or McDonalds on his outings.
- Car Driver: Car driver essential as Paul cannot travel on public transport.

- Genuine occupational requirement for the holder of this post to be female in accordance with the Health and Social Care Act 2008 (Regulated Activities) Regulations 2014 and Equality Act 2010 schedule 9 paragraphs 1 – 4.
- Permission to work in the U.K. at the time of starting their employment.
