Job Description
Hours: Term time 4 hours per week, weekends
Area: Byker, Newcastle Upon Tyne
Rate: £13.85 per hour
About Amira
Amira is a lovely 12-year-old girl who lives with her parents and sister in Byker. Amira and her family follow and practice the Muslim Faith and as such would ideally like to seek a Personal Assistant from within their cultural community. Amira can speak some Arabic and English but is predominantly Non-Verbal, using one-word statements to tell you her needs. Amira will be a “copycat” and repeat the words you speak.
Medical Conditions:
- Diagnosed with Autism
- Sleeping Issues
- Pica (a feeding disorder in which someone eats non-food substances that have no nutritional value, such as paper, soap, paint, chalk, or ice)
Additional Information:
- Amira is a severe nail biter
- Has no regulation of pain when injured
- Requires a high level of vigilance
- Can self-harm unintentionally and intentionally on occasion due to the lack of pain regulation
- Will use a wheelchair if required
- Has a safety harness for walking that she may need to use if she is in a heightened emotional state as she will run away and has no awareness of danger
- Has an excellent memory and can recite and recall places she has visited or enjoyed
- Loves to be outdoors and enjoys visits to the park
- Enjoys dining out and loves Nando’s and Indian cuisine
- Loves collecting things and will store her collections everywhere
- Enjoys super yoga on YouTube and various music and dance videos
- Enjoys woodwind instrument sounds
- Loves to draw and would ideally like a PA who can draw as well
- Likes swimming

- The family is seeking an experienced Personal Assistant who can demonstrate sound knowledge of Autism and its challenges.
- A car driver with a car is preferred for this position but not essential. You must be willing to use public transport or walk places.
- Initially the family would be accompanying the PA on outings until Amira feels comfortable in your presence.
- There is a genuine occupational requirement for the holder of this post to be female in accordance with the Health and Social Care Act 2008 (Regulated Activities) Regulations 2014 and Equality Act 2010 schedule 9 paragraphs 1 – 4.
