Position

Carer/Support Worker/Client Recruitment

Location

Bristol

Remuneration

  • Weekdays: £15.00 per hour
  • Weekends and Bank Holidays: £16.00 per hour

About The Role

  • Location: Bristol BS16
  • Hours:
    • Term Time: 14 hours per week (8 hours Mon-Fri + 6 hours at the weekend)
    • School Holidays: 18 hours per week (12 hours Mon-Fri + 6 hours at the weekend)

Pay

  • Pay Rate 1: £15.00 per hour, Weekday Days
  • Pay Rate 2: £16.00 per hour, Weekend and Bank Holiday Days

Job Summary

Orla, born in 2010, is a very active child who enjoys being physically engaged. Her favorite activities include swimming, playing throwing and catching games, and basketball. She also enjoys the seaside, cooking/baking with her mother, playing with friends, shopping, and reading.

Orla has mild motor impairment affecting her right side more, with issues in fine motor coordination. Her epileptic seizures have decreased over time but may become more apparent as she reaches adulthood. She has a severe visual impairment and struggles with seeing in crowded places and looking down, often missing obstacles and tripping. She requires very good lighting and prefers watching things on her tablet due to the smaller area to focus on.

Main Duties And Responsibilities

  • Supporting Orla out in the community with leisure activities, learning to ride a bike, and to swim
  • Supporting at other activities like the local park, classes, and clubs
  • Some assistance with personal care
  • Effective communication
  • Ability to work with patience, tact, understanding, warmth, and compassion

About You

Essential

  • Female – personal care required.
  • A Handling Management Plan designed to reduce the risk of handling injuries may require you to bend, kneel, squat, or lunge to ensure good posture during handling tasks if required.
  • Confident about working inside and outside client’s own home and sensitive to the needs and wishes of her mother.
  • Happy to learn new things. Training will be given.
  • Flexible, patient, and tolerant.
  • Proactive, encouraging approach.
  • Reliable, trustworthy, and with a responsible attitude.
  • Cheerful, caring, and positive attitude.
  • Confident with using I.T
  • Water confident / enjoys swimming.
  • Willing to participate in a variety of outdoor activities.
  • Able to demonstrate a good understanding of the importance of maintaining confidentiality and to respect our client and their family's need for privacy.
  • Keep own record of hours worked.
  • Attend supervision, as required.
  • Flexible with start and finish times according to the needs of our client.
  • Excellent literacy and numeracy skills.
  • Experience/understanding of mental health issues.
  • Full driving license (endorsements to be disclosed) and have your own car to drive our client whilst on shift.

Desirable

  • Shares similar interests with client, such as cycling and swimming.
  • Experience of working with children/adults with special needs. (This is preferred but enthusiasm, patience, and willingness to learn is desirable).
  • Ability to work additional hours as required.
  • NVQ level 2 or equivalent.
  • Knowledge and experience of traumatic brain injury would be advantageous.

Our Case Managers work closely with our Clients, and we carry out all the recruitment processes on behalf of our Clients; and will support you, from your initial telephone interview right through to arranging employer interviews, trial shifts, and placement.

If you are successfully recruited, you will be employed directly by our client or their Deputy appointed by the Court of Protection. However, ILS will manage your day-to-day employment, providing you with the support you need to carry out your role. Working as a Carer or Support Worker for an ILS client means that you will have a dedicated Case Manager to oversee your client's care needs.
