About The Role

Location: Wisbech Saint Mary, Cambridgeshire
Hours: Current shift patterns include a mixture of evening and longer day shifts, for example:
- Monday, Wednesday and Thursday: 3:30pm to 10:00pm (Approx)
- Tuesday: 2:30pm to 10:00pm (Approx)
- Friday: 10:00am to 10:00pm (Approx)
Night shifts may be available in the future.
Its important that our client is given the independence of choosing her bedtime and for this reason finish times will be somewhat flexible.
Flexibility is important, as shifts may vary depending on activities, appointments, and our client's individual needs. Applicants willing to support occasional later evenings, weekends, respite support, and future sleep-in opportunities would be welcomed.
Pay
- Weekdays: £16.32
- Weekend days: £17.62
- Sleeping nights: NLW

Job Summary
Our client is an inspiring young woman with Cerebral Palsy who is looking to expand her support team as she continues her journey into adulthood. She is a full-time wheelchair user and requires support with personal care and daily living activities; however, her vibrant personality, determination, and sense of humour are what truly define her. She is highly sociable, loves meeting new people, and enjoys helping others within her community.
Our client communicates using a sophisticated AAC (Augmentative and Alternative Communication) device, which she controls through precise head movements. Through this technology, she is able to express her thoughts, make choices, and actively direct her own life. She is passionate about music, enjoys sharing her favourite artists with those around her, and has aspirations to explore opportunities within the music industry, including DJing. She recently enjoyed volunteering within her local community, using her communication device to engage confidently with members of the public.
This is an exciting opportunity to support a bright, ambitious young adult who is keen to develop her independence, access new experiences, and build meaningful relationships. We are looking for Support Workers who can bring enthusiasm, creativity, and positive energy to her life whilst supporting her to achieve her goals and become part of a developing team.
The family have two very playful, but gentle, family dogs.
Main Duties And Responsibilities
- Provide person-centred support both within the family home and out in the community
- Supporting with personal care, moving and handling, communication, social activities and community access to pursue hobbies and interests
- Assist the client during hydrotherapy sessions, working alongside the Therapist to provide safe, effective support in the pool
- Increasing our client's independence, confidence and participation in everyday life
- An interest in supporting young adults to achieve their goals
- Work with our client's family and Case Manager collaboratively
- To understand the principles of safeguarding and professional boundaries and to implement and promote these at work

About You

Essential
- Female – personal care required.
- A Handling Management Plan designed to reduce the risk of handling injuries may require you to bend, kneel, squat or lunge to ensure good posture during handling tasks.
- Experience/understanding of mental health issues.
- Confident about working in client’s own home and sensitive to the needs and wishes of the parents.
- Happy to learn new things – hoisting, feeding, personal care routine etc. Training will be given.
- Aptitude and desire to work with children with complex needs.
- Flexible and able to use own initiative.
- Patient and tolerant.

- Comfortable to be around cats, (as our client has two pet cats).

- Full clean driving license and able to drive the clients adapted vehicle.

Desirable
- Experience of working with children/adults with special needs (This is preferred but enthusiasm, patience and willingness to learn is desirable).
- Experience of and qualifications in caring for children/young people with severe disabilities
- Experience of carrying out therapy programmes.
- Ability to work additional hours as required.
- Able to work flexible hours, sometimes at short notice.
- Previous experience of using specialist equipment with disabled people
- Experience of writing risk assessments and care plans.
- Basic knowledge of therapies, such as hydrotherapy and conductive education.
- Previous experience of hoisting and use of specialist equipment with disabled people.
- Experience of carrying out physiotherapy and/or multi-sensory programmes.
- Experience of using switches and other specialist IT technology for severely disabled people.
- NVQ level 3 or equivalent.
- Knowledge of and experience in using signing as a form of communication, (Makaton, Signalong, British Sign Language).
- Experience of working with individuals who have a mental health disorder.
- Knowledge and experience of traumatic brain injury would be advantageous.
- Own car – desirable
- An interest in art/crafts, music and dogs.
- Working knowledge of Makaton or BSL.

Our Case Managers work closely with our Clients, and we carry out all the recruitment processes on behalf of our Clients; and will support you, from your initial telephone interview right through to arranging employer interviews, trial shifts and placement.
If you are successfully recruited, you will be employed directly by our client or their Deputy appointed by the Court of Protection. However, ILS will manage your day-to-day employment, providing you with the support you need to carry out your role. Working as a Carer or Support Worker for an ILS client means that you will have a dedicated Case Manager to oversee your client's care needs.
