Full-Time Position
Onsite / Hybrid – 4 days per week in the Cambridge office / maximum of 1 day remote, with up to time spent travelling (UK & International).
A Life Science tools business is looking to add a new FAS to their UK based team!
The Role
As the Field Applications Specialist, you will own the customer-facing technical experience for our technology. You will be one of the first scientists customers meet — the person who understands their workflow, runs the demonstration, and gives them the confidence to move forward.
You will support discovery calls, deliver hands-on instrument demonstrations, and help build technical confidence with customers. Working closely with the Sales, R&D and Engineering teams, you will help turn scientific curiosity into adoption while bringing valuable customer feedback back into the business. This is a high-autonomy role for someone who is equally comfortable at the bench and in front of an audience.
The role is hybrid, with travel across the UK, Europe and USA/Canada, and a home base in Cambridge, UK. When you are not travelling, you will be expected to work onsite.

Key Responsibilities
- Independently plan and deliver end-to-end instrument demonstrations, primarily across the UK and Europe. Occasional trips to the USA and Canada may also be required.
- Act as the voice of the customer internally, sharing structured feedback with the Science, Product and Marketing teams.
- Support the Sales team with discovery calls to understand prospective customers’ workflows and quantification challenges.
- Support technical sales calls, translating customer requirements into well-designed and scientifically sound demonstration proposals.
- Support the wider sales process alongside the Sales team, including conference attendance, networking and follow-up.
Must-Haves
- Ability to travel to EU and other European countries, the USA and Canada.
- Willingness to travel internationally
- A valid driver’s licence, access to a car, and willingness to use it for UK site visits. All travel expenses will be fully reimbursed.
- Applicants must have the right to work in the UK. We are unable to offer visa sponsorship for this role.
- The role involves transporting and setting up the instrument at customer sites. Candidates should be comfortable handling equipment weighing up to 20 kg.

Experience & Skills
Essential
- MSc with at least 2 years’ experience in an Field Applications Specialist role, or a PhD in a relevant field (e.g. antibody development, protein expression, cell line development or process development).
- Hands-on bench experience in one or more of the following areas: antibody development, protein expression, cell line development or process development.
- Excellent pipetting technique and confidence running experiments independently, including under time pressure.
- Strong communication skills — clear, precise and confident when presenting to scientific audiences.
Desirable
- Practical experience using analytical instruments and techniques for protein quantification (e.g. ELISA, BLI, SPR, SEC-HPLC or similar).
