Field Clinical Specialist - Transcatheter Heart Valves (TAVI)

As a Field Clinical Specialist, you are a critical part of the Transcatheter Heart Valves (TAVI) field based team that works closely with heart centres, physicians and hospital staff to provide clinical support for Edward’s TAVI procedures. As the clinical expert within cardiology, you have deep product knowledge and a clear understanding of heart pathophysiology and aortic stenosis patients. This is a pivotal and patient-focused role, where you will be the face of Edwards to physicians, and work in close partnership with an account manager to service customers, provide expertise and drive business.

This role will be covering hospitals across Birmingham, Wolverhampton, Coventry and Nottingham (regular traveling required). You will work in a team alongside an account manager and another clinical specialist, ensuring excellent customer support for this territory.

Our Field Clinical Specialists have a detailed understanding of Edwards products and services. As a clinical and technical expert, you are a thought leader for physicians in the product, procedure, and the disease. In your region, you are a trusted partner to your colleagues when it comes to all technical and clinical products. You find innovative ways to employ this knowledge to drive territory performance and therapy awareness.

Disease & therapy knowledge:

THV Field Clinical Specialists are experts in aortic stenosis. As an all-around therapy expert, you have extensive and detailed knowledge in the disease and patient condition and are seen as a trusted resource and partner by implanters and customers on Edwards’s devices utilization.

Clinical data expertise:

As a Field Clinical Specialist, you can proactively apply your understanding of the latest clinical research to draw links between clinical data and clinical outcomes in the real patient setting. You are the THV expert in interpreting clinical data relating to the treatment options for specific patients.

Cath Lab management:

In the Cath lab, you provide support during the procedure and can react quickly to unexpected situations. You are able to prepare the device and are entirely familiar with Theatre/Cath Lab process and surgical unit Cath Lab team. The Cath Lab staff and physicians see you as an expert. You can demonstrate situational leadership during stressful procedures but remain a team player who can communicate effectively to each member of the team. You demonstrate a high level of self-awareness, knowing when to share your expertise and when to listen and support during the procedure.

Imaging expertise:

As an imaging expert, our Field Clinical Specialists show a detailed knowledge in reading imaging data and can interpret echocardiography data, CT-scans etc. understanding of the different imaging data used for TAVI procedures (e.g. CT scan, echocardiography, etc). You support clinical decisions on valve choice and size based on imaging data, can have detailed discussions with implanters on treatment decisions and a key part of the procedure planning.

Business Acumen:

In addition to deep clinical knowledge, you also have strong business acumen and can adapt your style to communicate with both clinical and non-clinical stakeholders, such as hospital administration. You understand competitor products and capabilities, technically and clinically. You work in strong partnership with your territory manager and use financial and business metrics to understand and achieve business goals, sharing information and leads with your account manager to help drive the business.

Customer Leadership:

You have foundational customer and proctor relationships. Most importantly, you are the specialist of patient journey and patient flow optimization. With the customer, you provide advice, coaching, and are the point of contact for technical and professional education, including responsibility for the certification of heart centres, physicians, and staff. You offer relevant trainings, both technical and scientific, on Edwards’s products, TAVI, and relevant cardiovascular topics (e.g. heart pathophysiology, valve replacement).

Teamwork and Leadership:

The Field Clinical Specialist can work independently but remains a key member of the territory team. You understand the THV organization and can foster an environment where sharing best practices is the standard. You are a good listener and experienced in working with physicians to influence change. You are a skilled teacher and able to provide advice, coaching, and support to others on how to design innovative solutions to optimize process efficiency and implementation plan.

What you will need:

  • Hands-on clinical experience working in cardiology, with the ability to apply technical knowledge and judgment to complex anatomical implant procedures.
  • Experience working in cardiac cath lab and/or a surgical environment.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills and the ability to communicate with a variety of stakeholders. This position will require close collaboration with internal stakeholders as well as external physician partners.
  • Effectiveness in understanding complex medical cases and resolving difficult situations.
  • Adaptable and self-aware: you can adjust to the dynamics of a fast-paced and sometimes high-stress cath lab / surgical environment.
  • Confident using of modern communication tools, MS Office, and willingness to learn other software programs as needed.
  • Strong aptitude for cardiac anatomy and physiology.
  • Up to 80% travel (driving license required).
