Civils Field Manager – New Connections Service Upgrades
Location: Washington (covering the North East Region)
Contract Type: Full-time, Permanent
Salary: Up to £42.5k + Company Vehicle/Car Allowance + Flexible Benefits
Freedom has an exciting opportunity for a Civils Field Manager to support the delivery of our New Connections Service Upgrades contract with Northern Powergrid. Reporting to the Project Manager, you will play a key role in ensuring the safe, efficient, and high-quality delivery of civils works associated with new connection projects across the North East.
This is a hands-on operational role, leading site teams and coordinating resources to ensure projects are delivered safely, on time, and to the required standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Support the Project Manager with the day-to-day delivery of civils service upgrade works.
- Lead and manage Supervisors, Planners, Engineers and Site Operatives across multiple projects.
- Ensure works are delivered safely, to specification, within budget and to programme.
- Act as a key operational contact for Northern Powergrid and maintain positive client relationships.
- Champion safe working practices and ensure compliance with all HSQE policies and legal requirements.
- Coordinate labour, plant and materials to meet operational demands.
- Monitor performance against KPIs and support improvement initiatives.
- Ensure accurate and timely completion of project documentation, including RAMS and as-built records.
- Liaise with local authorities, subcontractors and third-party stakeholders to facilitate successful project delivery.
- Promote a culture of quality, safety and continuous improvement across all site activities.

What We’re Looking For
Essential:
- Experience in an operational role within civil excavations, cable installation, utilities or power distribution.
- Strong knowledge of civils and utility construction activities.
- Proven leadership and team management experience.
- Strong client and stakeholder management skills.
- Commercial awareness and understanding of contract delivery.
- SSSTS, IOSH or equivalent Health & Safety qualification.
- Full UK Driving Licence.
Desirable:
- Previous experience working on Northern Powergrid contracts.
- Streetworks knowledge and understanding of NRSWA requirements.
- Management qualification or supervisory training.
