Field Operations Manager
Permanent
Location: Crewe - onsite 5 days a week
Salary: £40,000 - £45,000 (+ benefits)
We are recruiting for a Field Operations Manager to join a growing organisation based in the South Cheshire area.
This is a hands-on operational leadership role with responsibility for managing teams working across customer sites, ensuring work is planned effectively, service standards are achieved and operational issues are resolved quickly.
We are particularly interested in speaking with candidates who have experience managing field-based employees. You may currently be working within field service, maintenance engineering, facilities, logistics, transport, utilities or another operational environment where teams are working across multiple customer locations.
You do not need to come from a specific industry. The key requirement is strong people management experience combined with the ability to organise field activity, manage performance and maintain high levels of customer service.
The role
You will be responsible for the day-to-day management and performance of field-based operational teams, working closely with colleagues across customer service and commercial functions.
Key responsibilities will include:
- Leading, motivating and developing a team of field-based employees.
- Planning and coordinating operational activity across customer sites.
- Ensuring work is completed on time and agreed service levels are achieved.
- Managing individual and team performance against operational KPIs.
- Responding quickly to operational issues, urgent requirements and changing priorities.
- Working closely with internal teams to coordinate time-critical customer requirements.
- Monitoring operational performance, costs and service levels.
- Using operational data to identify trends, bottlenecks and opportunities for improvement.
- Setting clear objectives and managing performance issues where required.
- Identifying training and development requirements across the team.
- Supporting teams during operational difficulties and providing clear direction.
- Implementing new processes, procedures and operational improvements.
- Promoting a culture of accountability, safety, continuous improvement and excellent customer service.
- Ensuring relevant health & safety, quality, security and company procedures are followed.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

What we're looking for
We are looking for an experienced people manager who is comfortable leading teams working away from a central office or operational site.
You could potentially come from a background such as:
- Field service or maintenance engineering
- Facilities management
- Utilities
- Telecoms
- Transport or logistics
- Distribution
- Technical services
- Mobile service or installation teams
You should be able to demonstrate:
- Experience managing a field-based or multi-site operational team.
- Strong people-management and leadership skills.
- Experience managing performance, service levels and operational KPIs.
- A practical, hands-on approach to problem solving.
- The ability to manage changing priorities and respond quickly to operational issues.
- Confidence using operational systems, reports and performance data.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to work with both employees and customers.
- A track record of improving operational performance or ways of working.
This would suit someone who enjoys being close to the day-to-day operation rather than managing from a distance. You will need to be organised, proactive, commercially aware and comfortable working within a relatively small, hands-on business.
