Field Robotics Engineer - Oxford (Remote) - Robotics Start-Up (Equity Included)
European Tech Recruit are working closely with an exciting robotics company, based in Zurich, who are looking for a talented Field Robotics Engineer to join their team and be their first hire in the UK.
Key Responsibilities
- End-to-End Project Execution: Drive client deployment projects from initial planning through hands-on installation and final autonomous verification.
- On-Site Integration & Commissioning: Perform hands-on mounting, wiring, and integration of hardware/sensor suites (LiDAR, GNSS, Radar, CAN bus) onto physical machinery in demanding environments.
- Client Technical Engagement: Serve as the primary technical partner on-site, guiding client engineering teams, conducting training, and delivering direct operational support.
- Diagnostics & Field Hotfixes: Diagnose complex multi-layered hardware/software issues using Linux tools, read/inspect C++ and Python codebases, and push rapid hotfixes directly in the field.
- Feedback Loop to R&D: Document field performance metrics and collaborate closely with core software/hardware teams to improve system reliability and deployment workflows.

What We Are Looking For
- Education: Degree (BSc, MSc, or equivalent) in Robotics, Mechatronics, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related discipline.
- Field Integration Experience: Proven hands-on track record deploying, testing, and troubleshooting physical robotics or autonomous hardware in real-world settings.
- Core Tech Stack: Practical experience within the ROS / ROS 2 ecosystem, Linux, and Git.
- Software Skills: Functional coding proficiency in Python and/or C++ to read, debug, and patch field code on the fly.
- Mobility & Licensing: Valid Category B driving license and willingness to travel extensively (60–70% at peak times across the Oxford–London corridor and globally, including Switzerland and the US).

Desirable Extras
- Experience with autonomous heavy machinery, off-highway vehicles, ag-tech, drones/UAVs, or mobile robotics.
- Familiarity with industrial protocols, CAN bus networks, or advanced sensor payloads.
