Field Sales Business Development Manager

Location: Field & Home Based – [Gloucester / South Wales / Cardiff & Newport]
Company: Certas Energy
Salary: Competitive + Car Package + Monthly Bonus - Excellent OTE opportunities

How you'll power our business as a Field Sales Business Development Manager

Are you a field salesperson who loves getting out in front of customers, winning new business and seeing your success reflected in your earnings? Certas Energy is looking for a Field Sales Business Development Manager to grow our commercial customer base across your territory.

You'll spend your time out in the field meeting businesses, understanding their fuel and energy requirements and converting opportunities into long-term customers. From farms and agricultural businesses to construction sites and commercial operators, you'll be building relationships with customers who rely on us to keep their businesses moving.

This is a genuine new business role. You'll have access to a strong pipeline of warm opportunities, but we'll also want you to be proactive in finding and converting your own. Once you've won a customer, you'll have the opportunity to develop that relationship, grow their fuel volume and identify additional products and services that could support their business.

And importantly, your success is rewarded, with a monthly commission structure recognising both the new accounts you bring into the business and the volume they generate.

What you'll be doing

  • Winning new commercial customers across your territory through a combination of warm leads and proactive business development.
  • Getting out on the road, meeting prospective customers and building relationships face-to-face.
  • Developing opportunities across sectors including agriculture, construction and commercial businesses.
  • Managing your sales pipeline from initial conversation through to conversion.
  • Understanding each customer's operation and identifying the right fuel solutions for their business.
  • Taking ownership of the customers you win and developing those relationships over time.
  • Identifying opportunities to cross-sell additional products and services from across the wider business.
  • Growing both the number and value of accounts within your territory.
  • Working closely with our office-based and operational teams to deliver a great experience for your customers.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

No noise. No "maybe this fits." Just roles with a clear explanation of why they're right — and where to focus when applying.

What we're looking for

Above everything else, we're looking for someone with the drive and confidence to go out and win business.

You'll ideally bring:

  • Previous field sales, business development or territory sales experience.
  • A proven ability to generate and convert new business.
  • Confidence meeting customers face-to-face and developing relationships.
  • Strong commercial instincts and the ability to spot cross-selling opportunities.
  • Experience managing and developing a sales pipeline.
  • The ability to work independently and manage your own territory.
  • A curious approach, asking the right questions to really understand how your customers operate.

Experience within fuel, oil, energy, agriculture or construction would be a real advantage, but it's not essential. If you're a strong field salesperson who knows how to build relationships and win new business, we'd still love to hear from you.

This is an opportunity where your performance can directly influence your earnings. Our commission structure rewards you for both the new customers you bring into the business and the volume they generate, meaning there is an opportunity to build your earnings as you build your customer base.

You'll receive:

  • Monthly commission payments.
  • Commission opportunities linked to both new accounts and customer volume.
  • A company car to support your field-based role.
  • A strong flow of warm opportunities alongside the freedom to generate your own business.
  • The opportunity to represent an established energy business with a broad range of solutions for commercial customers.
  • Support from experienced operational and office-based colleagues as you learn the business.

A role for someone who loves winning business

This isn't an account management position where you'll inherit a portfolio and simply maintain it. We want someone who enjoys the hunt.

Someone who wants to get out into their territory, meet businesses, create opportunities, win customers and then see how far they can grow those relationships. If that sounds like you, we'd love to hear from you.

Diversity & Inclusion

We believe different experiences, perspectives and backgrounds make us stronger.

We're committed to creating an inclusive workplace where everyone feels valued, respected and able to be themselves. We welcome applications from people of all backgrounds and recognise that talented candidates won't always meet every requirement listed in an advert.

If you're excited about this opportunity and believe you could make an impact, we'd encourage you to apply.
