What you can expect:
A new opportunity has arisen at Syntegon for a dual skilled Field Service Engineer for the food packaging division, specialising in Secondary Packaging.
Key Responsibilities:
- Install, commission, and maintain Syntegon Secondary Packaging equipment, including final mechanical positioning, levelling, running equipment to agreed specifications and ultimately perform site acceptance tests.
- Travel globally (approximately 80% of the time, including both national and international assignments), with flexibility for short-notice travel and occasional weekend work.
- Carry out routine maintenance and planned servicing according to service agreements and schedules.
- Troubleshoot and resolve electrical, mechanical, and software issues, identifying root causes and liaising with engineering teams when necessary.
- Provide customer training on equipment operation and routine maintenance, managing customer expectations and advising on future Maintenance Programmes.
- Respond to breakdowns and short-notice call-outs, working to tight timescales to minimise downtime.
- Produce detailed reports following site visits and submit relevant expenses in a timely manner.
- Support product trials and identify opportunities for machine upgrades and modernisation.
- Maintain up-to-date product knowledge through ongoing training.
- Support the manufacturing facility in Bristol when required.

What you'll bring:
Knowledge and Skills:
The job holder will hold the following knowledge and skills;
- Qualifications in Mechatronics, mechanical or electrical engineering
- Electrical engineering – a good understanding of both modern and older control systems across a wide range of platforms
- Ability to working under own initiative and skills
- Understanding correct methods of mechanical fitting from changing bearings to setting up machinery
- Adjusting high speed packaging machinery to achieve optimum efficiency.
- Ability to find and identify worn and damaged parts from assembly drawings
- PLC theory and practice. Ability to fault find within our software, Allen Bradley preferred but Beckhoff and Siemen’s advantageous
- Commercial awareness. Being able to spot opportunities such as machine upgrades and modernization. Then inform customer about possibilities before reporting to sales person. Helping finalise the sale
- An understanding of high level of customer service
- Ability to prioritise work to challenging deadlines
- Good communication skills
- Ability to work remotely, often overseas in a variety of locations in different time zones
- Full driving license
- Experience in a previous field service role is desirable.
- Exposure to FMCG manufacturing industry – food and packaging would be an advantage
- Packaging engineering and technical skills desirable
