The role
Wenzel UK is hiring a home-based Field Service Engineer to install, calibrate, maintain and repair coordinate measuring machines (CMMs) at customer sites across the UK, with occasional trips to the USA and Germany. You will be the face of Wenzel on site, keeping high-precision measurement equipment running for aerospace and advanced manufacturing customers.

About Wenzel UK
Wenzel UK, based in Loughborough, is the UK arm of the Wenzel group, a German manufacturer of coordinate measuring machines. We install, service, calibrate and support CMMs for precision manufacturers, including leading names in aerospace and defence.
We are a small, close-knit team, so every engineer makes a visible difference. You will work alongside experienced service and applications engineers and have direct contact with our German headquarters.
Key responsibilities
- Carry out planned preventative maintenance on Wenzel and third-party CMMs at customer sites.
- Calibrate and verify CMMs to ISO 10360, including volumetric error mapping and producing calibration certificates.
- Diagnose and repair electrical, electronic and mechanical faults: controllers, drives, motors, scales, air bearings, pneumatics and probing systems.
- Install, commission and relocate new and used machines, working with our lifting and transport partners.
- Carry out retrofits and upgrades to controllers, probe heads and software.
- Give customers basic operator training and technical advice on site.
- Complete accurate service reports, timesheets and expenses promptly.
- Follow site safety rules, complete risk assessments and method statements, and work safely on customer premises.
- Travel to the USA and Germany for training, factory visits and overseas service work when needed.
- Keep your company vehicle, tools and calibration equipment in good order and within calibration.
- Support the team with occasional stand-by or out-of-hours work to meet customer needs.

What you need
Essential
- Live within reasonable driving distance of the Midlands.
- Electro-mechanical qualification (HNC, ONC, NVQ Level 3 or similar) or a completed engineering apprenticeship.
- Proven experience fault-finding on electro-mechanical equipment, ideally precision machinery.
- Confident reading electrical schematics and mechanical drawings.
- Full UK driving licence and a valid passport, with no restrictions on travel to the USA or Europe.
- Comfortable working alone at customer sites and managing your own diary.
- Clear, professional communication with customers at every level.
- Good IT skills: Windows, Microsoft Office and diagnostic software.

Desirable
- Experience servicing or calibrating CMMs from Wenzel, Zeiss, Hexagon, Mitutoyo or similar.
- Knowledge of Renishaw probing systems and ISO 10360.
- Background in metrology, machine tools or motion control.
- Experience working in aerospace, defence or other regulated environments.
