Role summary:
Join our team at Thermo Fisher Scientific and contribute to critical diagnostic innovation. As a Field Service Engineer III, you will provide installation, maintenance, troubleshooting and repair services for our Phadia ImmunoDiagnostics systems, supporting laboratories in delivering high-quality allergy and autoimmune testing. The role combines hands-on engineering, technical problem-solving, customer interaction and independent working, backed by the support and expertise of the wider UK Field Service organization.
Our Phadia systems are in vitro diagnostic (IVD) platforms used in clinical laboratories for allergy and autoimmune testing, incorporating our ImmunoCAP and EliA technologies. The UK Field Service team supports the Phadia instrument family, including the Phadia 200, Phadia 250, Phadia 1000 and Phadia 2500 platforms.
Through ongoing technical training and practical experience, you will develop your knowledge of our Phadia 200, 250, 1000 and 2500 systems, with the expectation that you will become comfortable supporting the wider Phadia instrument family.
Territory:
This is a field-based role supporting customers across London and the surrounding area. We are looking for someone based within Greater London or the Home Counties, or in a suitable location that provides effective access to our London customer base. Please note that a relocation package is not provided.

Responsibilities:
- Working with advanced diagnostic technology, you will deliver outstanding technical support while building strong relationships with customers across hospitals, clinical laboratories and other diagnostic facilities.
- You will troubleshoot complex system issues, perform preventive maintenance, support instrument installations and help ensure optimal instrument performance and reliability.
- Regular travel to customer sites will form part of your working day. While your primary focus will be customers within the London region, you will occasionally be expected to support customers outside your usual territory based on business needs.
- You will manage your own field-based workload while being supported by an experienced UK Field Service team. Collaboration is an important part of our service organization, and you will work closely with other Field Service Engineers, Technical Support, Applications, Sales and other colleagues to provide an excellent customer experience.
- You will be one of the key points of contact between Thermo Fisher Scientific and our customers. You’ll have the opportunity to build long-term relationships with laboratory teams while taking ownership of the performance and reliability of the instruments you support.
- Training will be provided based on business requirements and your previous experience. As your knowledge and experience develop, you will be expected to become competent in supporting the wider Phadia instrument family, providing opportunities to continuously develop your technical knowledge and capabilities.

Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree plus a few years of relevant experience, or several years’ experience as a Field Service Engineer within the medical device, diagnostics or related technical industry, installing, troubleshooting, repairing and maintaining sophisticated instrumentation.
- Preferred fields of study: Electronics, Physics, Engineering, Computer Science, Chemistry, or a related technical discipline.
- Strong diagnostic and problem-solving abilities across hardware and software systems.
- Experience working with electrical, mechanical and/or electro-mechanical systems.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with a proven ability to build positive customer relationships.
- Strong customer focus and the ability to communicate effectively with laboratory staff and other stakeholders.
- Professional working proficiency in English.
- Ability to read and interpret technical documentation, schematics and engineering drawings.
- Proficiency with Windows operating systems, networking and standard business software.
- Based within Greater London or the Home Counties, or in a suitable location providing effective access to the London customer base.
- Valid driver’s license and willingness to travel regularly to customer sites across London and the surrounding area, with flexibility to support customers outside the region when required.
- Physical ability to lift up to 50 lbs. and work within laboratory environments.
- Experience mentoring or training others is preferred.
- Ability to work independently, manage your own workload and priorities, while maintaining strong collaboration with the wider Field Service team.
- Willingness to undertake ongoing technical training and develop competency across the Phadia instrument portfolio.
- Ability to respond professionally and effectively to urgent customer requirements.
- Must follow all applicable safety, quality and regulatory procedures when working on customer sites and Thermo Fisher Scientific equipment.
