Field Service Engineer

The Field Service Engineer will play a critical role in supporting JMTechnical’s advanced engineering and manufacturing operations across aviation security systems, food processing machinery, and industrial automation.

This role combines hands-on technical service delivery with proactive client engagement, ensuring JMTechnical equipment operates safely, reliably, and efficiently in the field. You will work directly with customers, provide on-site and remote support, and act as a key link between clients and JMTechnical’s internal engineering and manufacturing teams.

The position requires strong technical competence, clear communication skills, and a professional, client-focused mindset.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide on-site service, fault diagnosis, and repair of JMTechnical equipment
  • Carry out preventative maintenance, inspections, and system health checks
  • Diagnose electrical, mechanical, and control system faults in the field
  • Support installation, commissioning, and system upgrades
  • Liaise directly with customers, site teams, and stakeholders in a professional manner
  • Deliver basic operator and maintenance training to clients where required
  • Accurately record service activity using our online service portal
  • Feed back field issues and improvement suggestions to internal engineering teams
  • Support remote troubleshooting and technical assistance as required

Must Haves

  • Strong hands-on engineering background (electrical, mechanical, or multi-skilled)
  • Experience servicing or maintaining industrial machinery or automated systems
  • Ability to diagnose and resolve faults under real-world site conditions
  • Confident, professional communication skills with customers
  • Willingness to travel and work on customer sites
  • Ability to work independently and manage service visits effectively
  • Strong focus on safety, quality, and reliability

Nice to Haves

  • Experience in aviation security equipment, food processing machinery, or automation
  • PLC or automation exposure (fault-finding, I/O, basic diagnostics)
  • Experience with control panels, sensors, motors, and actuators
  • Background in regulated or safety-critical environments
  • Familiarity with digital service tools, portals, or mobile reporting systems
  • Electrical qualifications or mechanical certifications

Minimum Qualifications

OR

Relevant apprenticeship, NVQ Level 3, HNC, or equivalent experience in:

  • Electrical Engineering
  • Mechanical Engineering
  • Mechatronics
  • Maintenance / Automation Engineering

Proven industry experience demonstrating equivalent capability
