Do you enjoy solving practical problems, working hands-on, and seeing a job through from inspection to completion?
Our client specializes in the inspection, maintenance, repair, and installation of sports, gymnasium, and fixed equipment for schools, leisure facilities, MOD sites, and other organizations across the UK.
This is a varied field-based role where no two days are the same. You could be carrying out equipment inspections, completing repairs, installations, or larger remedial works, working independently or alongside other engineers.
We are looking for someone based in or around Watford / West London, with a strong practical background, good problem-solving skills, and the ability to work confidently on customer sites.
The Role
As a Field Service Engineer / Maintenance Technician, you will be responsible for carrying out inspections, maintenance, repairs, and installation works at customer sites, ensuring all work is completed safely, professionally, and to a high standard.
Key Responsibilities
- Carry out inspections, maintenance, repairs, and installation works in accordance with company standards and Health and Safety regulations
- Identify defects and appropriate remedial measures, looking for repair options rather than replacement where possible
- Produce accurate and detailed site reports, including findings, work completed, recommendations, and quotes
- Provide measurements, drawings, photographs, supplier part numbers, and prices to support accurate quotations
- Identify and obtain the parts, equipment, and tools required for each job
- Read job paperwork and RAMS before attending site to ensure the work, tools, parts, PPE, and safe working methods are understood
- Carry out vehicle checks and plan journeys to ensure punctual arrival at customer sites
- Notify the office promptly of any overruns, delays, access issues, or aborted visits
- Complete job paperwork and reports and return them to the office within 24 hours
- Maintain the company vehicle, tools, PPE, and vehicle stock in accordance with company standards
- Complete timesheets, vehicle checks, PPE, clothing, tools, and stock checks as required
- Complete Health and Safety training, toolbox talks, and company training as required
- Maintain a clean, tidy, and organized vehicle and report any defects
- Collaborate with colleagues and assist with the instruction and training of new engineers
- Support colleagues and supervise on-site works where required

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
