We are working with an established scientific instrumentation business looking to appoint a field service engineer to support its NMR customer base across the UK.
The Role
You will be responsible for supporting customers predominantly across universities and academic research environments, alongside some chemical and industrial organisations.
Responsibilities
- Fault finding and diagnostics across complex scientific instrumentation
- Electronics-based troubleshooting and repairs
- Preventative maintenance and servicing
- Instrument installations
- Providing technical support to customers
- Working closely with experienced NMR engineers during your training
- Occasional office-based applications/technical support
- Developing broader technical expertise through cross-training
Initially, training will focus on breakdowns and servicing, progressing into more complex installations as your NMR knowledge develops.

What We're Looking For
We’re open to several backgrounds, including:
- Experienced NMR Field Service Engineers
- Ex-military engineers
- TEM / SEM service engineers
- Engineers working with analytical or scientific instrumentation
- Chemistry/technical graduates with strong hands-on electronics experience
Regardless of background, you will need:
- Strong electronics and fault-finding skills
- Confidence working independently in the field
- Good customer-facing and communication skills
- Willingness to learn complex NMR technology
- Flexibility to travel extensively across the UK
- Full UK driving licence
Travel
This is a national field-based position, with customers across areas including the South West, Midlands, Yorkshire, North West, North East and Scotland.
You should expect approximately 1–2 overnight stays per week. Regular weekend work isn't required, although there may occasionally be conferences or international travel, with time off in lieu provided.

Package
- £40,000 - £45,000 basic salary
- Potential flexibility up to £50,000 for exceptional experience

Interview Process
- Stage 1: Teams interview
- Stage 2: In-person interview with members of the management and engineering team
The position is available ASAP, with the business ideally looking for someone to start during November.
