Field Service Engineer - Retail (West Midlands)
Bizerba (UK) Ltd is looking for a Field Service Engineer to join its team supporting retail customers across the West Midlands. This role matters because timely, expert on-site and remote support keeps retail operations running, protects revenue and maintains customer confidence in the company’s products.
Purpose of the role
The Field Service Engineer will diagnose, repair and maintain weighing, labelling and point-of-sale equipment used in retail environments. You will deliver high-quality technical support both remotely and on customer sites across the West Midlands, ensuring equipment uptime and customer satisfaction.
Key responsibilities
- Provide first- and second-line fault finding, repair and preventative maintenance for retail equipment.
- Respond to service requests and schedule visits to meet customer SLA expectations.
- Troubleshoot hardware and software faults, including connectivity and integration with POS systems.
- Perform installations, upgrades and calibrations at customer sites in a safe and compliant manner.
- Support remote diagnostics and resolve issues via phone or remote access where possible.
- Accurately log work, parts used and time in the company service system and produce clear service reports.
- Advise customers on routine maintenance and best-practice operation to reduce repeat faults.
- Work collaboratively with internal teams (support, logistics, engineering) to escalate complex issues and improve product reliability.

Essential Skills And Experience
- Proven experience in field service, maintenance or engineering roles supporting retail or similar equipment.
- Strong fault-finding skills across electrical, mechanical and basic networked systems.
- Ability to work independently, manage a diary of customer visits and prioritise reactive work.
- Good communication skills for explaining technical issues to non-technical customers.
- Full UK driving licence and willingness to travel across the West Midlands region.
- Right to work in the UK.
Desirable Skills And Experience
- Experience with weighing, labelling or POS hardware and common retail integrations.
- Knowledge of Windows-based systems, basic networking (IP, DHCP), and remote access tools.
- Experience using mobile workforce or field service management systems.
- Electrical or electronic qualification or apprenticeship background.

Qualifications
Where a qualification is required, typical credentials include an electrical or electronic NVQ/City & Guilds, an engineering apprenticeship, or equivalent practical experience. Specific certifications should be listed if required by a particular customer contract.
Working pattern
This is a Full-time, Permanent role. The position is remote-based with regular travel across the West Midlands to customer sites.
