Overview
Scientia Talent have partnered with a well-established manufacturer of high-precision laboratory and process instruments. Following continued growth in their UK service business, they are now looking to appoint a Field Service Engineer to cover the Midlands. You'll look after a broad portfolio of advanced analytical instruments, with full product training provided. Key Responsibilities
- Carry out planned preventative maintenance and calibration of analytical instruments to company service standards, completing all documentation accurately
- Diagnose and repair faults at customer sites or in-house, providing detailed service reports
- Install new systems and train customers on operation and routine care
- Provide remote technical support to customers and colleagues by phone and online
- Support the wider service team on larger multi-instrument contracts, including occasional overnight stays
- Manage your own diary, car stock, and calibrated tools and test equipment
- Spot service and instrument sales opportunities during visits and record all activity in the CRM system

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
