Field Service Engineer – Semiconductor Metrology

Based in the UK, working globally

Salary: £36,000 – £45,000 + EMI Share Options + Private Healthcare

Keep the machines running that measure the chips powering the modern world.

Semiconductor metrology systems don't fix themselves. Someone has to travel to the site, diagnose the fault, and get a multi-million-pound tool back online for customers who cannot afford downtime. We're looking for that person.

Infinitesima builds the AFM-based metrology systems the world's biggest semiconductor manufacturers rely on to measure chips down to the nanometre. We need a Field Service Engineer to keep those systems running — worldwide.

The role involves travel, sometimes at short notice, sometimes for extended periods, to our global and EU operations. If you're looking for a desk-bound, nine-to-five role, this isn't it. If the idea of travelling internationally to solve genuinely difficult technical problems appeals to you, read on.

What the role involves

  • Install, commission, and upgrade advanced metrology systems at customer sites worldwide
  • Deliver preventative maintenance and corrective repair activities
  • Diagnose complex electromechanical, optical, and system-level faults
  • Support customers remotely and on-site to keep uptime and performance where they need to be
  • Train and mentor distributors and customer service teams
  • Monitor system performance and spot opportunities for improvement before they become problems
  • Feed customer insight back to engineering to shape future products
  • Support production, test, and commissioning activities at our Abingdon HQ when required
  • Help build a scalable, world-class customer support function

Who we're looking for:

Your background could be in semiconductor equipment, scientific instrumentation, lasers, optics, automation, or complex electromechanical systems — what matters most is that you can diagnose a fault under pressure and explain it clearly to a customer.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
