Field Service Engineer – Surrey/Croydon

About the Role

Are you a skilled technician with a passion for problem-solving and delivering exceptional service? We’re looking for a proactive, customer-focused Field Service Engineer to join our Aftermarket team!

This is a mobile role where you’ll be responsible for servicing, repairing, and maintaining specialist vehicles at customer sites and company workshops. Your role will ensure our vehicles are safe, compliant, and operating at peak performance.

Location & Hours

  • Primary Area: Surrey (allocated to Croydon Service Centre)
  • Hours: 45 hours per week, typically 08:00–17:30 (Monday–Friday)

Salary

Up to £53,445.60 DOE (depending on experience)


What You’ll Be Doing

  • Diagnose and repair faults on vehicle chassis and mounted equipment
  • Carry out servicing and maintenance to a high standard
  • Prepare vehicles for MOT inspections, ensuring compliance with Department of Transport specifications
  • Use diagnostic software and tools to identify and resolve issues
  • Log all work using PDA software and maintain accurate service records
  • Travel across the UK to customer sites (sometimes at short notice)
  • Maintain a clean and safe working environment
  • Communicate clearly with customers to provide excellent service
  • Support health and safety practices and complete risk assessments

Ideal Candidate

  • Qualification: NVQ Level 3 (or equivalent) in Heavy Vehicle Service & Maintenance
  • Experience: Previous experience in Field Service, HGV Mechanic, or similar workshop roles
  • Technical Skills:
    • Strong diagnostic and fault-finding abilities
    • Knowledge of vehicle technology systems and compliance standards
  • Personal Attributes:
    • Comfortable working independently and managing your workload
    • Excellent communication and customer service skills
    • Flexibility with hours and willingness to travel
  • Bonus Qualifications/Experience:
    • Electric vehicle (EV) experience
    • IRTEC qualification or HGV Class 2 licence
