Position Summary

We are seeking a Refrigeration & Laboratory service engineer to provide field-based service support, preventative maintenance, calibration, installation, fault finding & trouble shooting of laboratory refrigeration and scientific equipment across the UK, predominantly in the South of England. The successful candidate will work on a wide range of laboratory instrumentation including Ultra Low Temperature (ULT) & Cryogenic Freezers, Laboratory Refrigerators & Freezers, Centrifuges, Co2 & Shaking Incubators, Climate & Stability Chambers, Freeze Dryers (Lyophilizes), Nanodrop Spectrophotometers and other laboratory equipment. The role requires strong fault-finding and ability to work independently while ensuring equipment performs to manufacturer and regulatory standards while providing strong customer service ability.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform the following satisfactorily (other duties may be assigned). Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.

  • Perform planned preventative maintenance, servicing, calibration and repairs on laboratory refrigeration and scientific equipment.
  • Diagnose electrical, mechanical and refrigeration faults and complete effective breakdown repairs.
  • Install, commission and verify new laboratory equipment while providing customer familiarization where required.
  • Produce accurate service reports, calibration certificates and maintenance documentation after every visit.
  • Maintain tools, test equipment, vehicle stock.
  • Identify service contract, upgrade and replacement opportunities while maintaining excellent customer relationships.
  • Manage service visits across the UK but mainly within the UK predominantly South of England area, including regular travel, some short-notice requirements and including occasional overnight stays.
  • Complete accurate expense accounting related to travel and service visits.

Education/Experience

  • Minimum of at least 3 years' experience in a similar field service role.
  • Relevant qualification in Refrigeration, Electrical, Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline.
  • Proven experience servicing equipment such as ULT & Cryogenic Freezers, Refrigerators, Centrifuges, CO₂ & Shaking Incubators, Climate/Stability Chambers, Freeze Dryers, Nanodrop instruments and similar laboratory equipment.
  • F-Gas certification and experience with refrigeration systems desirable – but not essential. (Training provided for right candidate.)
