Insite Energy Field Technical Engineer

About the Role

Insite Energy is a market-leading service provider working with Heat and Cooling Networks in the UK (also referred to as communal energy or district heating schemes). Services provided include metering, billing, installation (and retrofit) of pay-as-you-go / metering equipment solutions, site management through construction and ongoing operation & maintenance.

The Maintenance Team is responsible for ongoing site support services and maintenance of metering, pay-as-you-go and related IT equipment. The Maintenance team will also at times support the Installation team with commissioning and retrofit activities.

Insite Field Technical Engineer’s support the installation, maintenance, and effective operation of heat network equipment (HIU’s, Valves, Meters, PAYG devices & metering systems) deployed within our client’s developments and their customers’ homes.

The role includes the installation & commissioning, fault detection & remedy of all in property assets which are connected to the central heat and cooling networks. Much of this role includes working in the built environment on multi-million-pound construction schemes and in people’s homes.

As an integral member of the Maintenance Team, you will support our Client Services team in delivering best-in-class service; the role is a vitally important aspect of maintaining Insite’s great reputation for customer service & quality and delivering our ambitious growth plans.

Duties & Responsibilities

Specific responsibilities include:

  • Installation and commissioning Insite prepayment & controlled credit systems
  • Using a laptop and tablet device to commission metering equipment, update records and systems.
  • Problem-solving and fault-finding issues on site and liaising with other trades and the main contractor.
  • Liaise with & report to site staff (clients, principal contractors, consultants & heating / plumbing sub-contractors)
  • Heat Interface Unit (HIU) replacement, maintenance, and servicing (mainly in occupied homes).
  • Mechanical Ventilation Heat Recovery Units (MVHR) installation, replacement and maintenance.
  • Fan Coiled Units (FCU) and cooling meter replacement, maintenance, and servicing.
  • Installation and maintenance of in-property heating and cooling controls.
  • Commissioning, service, and repair of in-property heating and cooling systems.
  • To conduct site surveys and assist the Installations Team with the installation and commissioning of new systems.
  • Full installation, retrofitting, and maintenance of multi-utility Pay-As-You-Go metering systems, including prepayment valve, mains spur, wiring, and commission (mainly in occupied homes).
  • Installing IT Gateways & Radio Frequency (RF) equipment.

Work In Plantrooms

  • Provide both pre-planned and reactive maintenance to plantrooms which we are contracted to maintain (training provided).
  • Carry out monthly inspections and condition reports on plant and kit installed with the plantrooms and infrastructure (training provided).
  • Replacement of components such as pumps, valves, and other components as deemed necessary (training provided).

Support On-going Customer Services

  • Provide reactive maintenance; including equipment installed in people’s homes or commissioned within a scheme but not yet handed over to clients / residents.
  • Carry out post-installation upgrade / maintenance programmes on Insite equipment installed in residential properties, plant rooms, and communal areas.
  • Interact with clients & customers on site at developments, representing Insite Energy in sometimes difficult situations where clients & residents may be unhappy to be without utilities due to faults.
  • Maintain personal equipment & stock of spares/consumables to a level ensuring continuity of service.

Automatic Metering Reading (AMR) Systems

  • Support role to Insite IT; including installing, commissioning, and maintaining dataloggers, Gateways, repeaters, routers, & IP Power Down Plugs.
  • To offer a support role with problem-solving and fault-finding AMR systems, including heat meters, MBUS networks, & ZigBEE wireless RF networks.

General

  • Demonstrate a positive attitude towards providing customer service excellence in all aspects of work.
  • Be personally accountable for the highest standards of quality workmanship & take pride in your work and take pride in working for the Insite brand, including wearing Insite branded uniform.
  • Happy to work as an individual but contribute to the team goals and ethos and share best practice.
  • Confident and experienced in the use of laptop/tablet (training provided)
  • Adhere to Company Health and Safety policy and training and report all accidents and near misses through the correct channels.
  • Adhere to client site safety regulations & requirements whilst on any site or in residential properties.
  • Represent Insite with clients & customers professionally in line with company standards & procedures.
  • Respond to ad-hoc tasks & requirements as instructed by management when required.
  • Be thoroughly conversant and compliant with Insite regulations and procedures.
  • Timely responses to all emails and messages.
  • Take ownership of all valued stock and equipment through effective stock control measures and processes.
  • Follow all guidance, rules, and procedures when using Insite vehicles

Working Hours & Location

  • 37.5 hours per week Monday to Friday 08:00 – 20:00
  • Office location: Moorgate, London (WeWork)
  • Primarily field-based across Greater London
  • UK-wide work on occasion as client requirements dictate (Will include overnight UK-wide travel)

Qualifications, Key Competencies, Skills & Experience

Essential skills and qualifications:

  • Must hold NVQ level 2 or higher plumbing and heating.
  • Desirable to hold NIC 18th edition in domestic wiring (training can be provided).
  • Must hold CSCS card (or able to get one).

Desirable

  • SMSTS or H&S qualification.
  • First aid trained.

  • UK Driving license (with minimal or no penalty points)
  • CRB Basic clearance
  • Eligible to work in the UK.
  • 2 satisfactory references
