HMG Powder Coatings is a leading UK manufacturer of high-performance powder coatings, supplying customers across architectural, industrial, automotive, agricultural, and specialist manufacturing sectors.
Due to continued growth and investment, we are looking to recruit a Field Technical Support Engineer to join our expanding technical team.
This is an exciting opportunity for someone with hands-on powder coating experience who enjoys solving problems, working with customers, and sharing technical knowledge. The role is predominantly field-based, supporting customers throughout the UK and Ireland, whilst also playing an important part within our Tamworth Application Laboratory.

The Role
Reporting to the Operations Director, you will become an important member of our technical support team, working closely with Sales, Technical, Manufacturing, and Research & Development.
Your primary objective is to help customers achieve the very best performance from HMG Powder Coatings products through technical support, training, and application expertise.
The role is approximately:
- 70% customer visits across the UK & Ireland
- 30% Tamworth Application Laboratory and technical support

Key Responsibilities
- Provide on-site technical support to customers.
- Investigate and resolve powder coating application issues.
- Produce clear technical reports following customer visits.
- Carry out application audits and process reviews.
- Deliver practical training for customer applicators.
- Conduct annual Approved Applicator assessments and refresher training.
- Support customer product trials and new product introductions.
- Assist with product demonstrations and application testing.
- Support Research & Development with product evaluation and testing.
- Assist with technical investigations and product development programs.
- Deliver telephone and Microsoft Teams technical support.
- Work alongside the Sales Team by providing technical expertise during customer visits.
- Assist with training courses held at the HMG Tamworth Application Laboratory.
- Produce technical bulletins and application guidance where required.
- Maintain excellent customer relationships through professional technical support.
This role carries no sales targets or commercial responsibility. Your focus will be on providing first-class technical expertise that supports our customers and our sales teams.
What We're Looking For
The successful candidate will ideally have:
- Previous experience within the powder coating industry.
- Experience in powder application, manufacturing, or technical support.
- Good understanding of electrostatic application equipment.
- Strong fault-finding and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent communication and presentation skills.
- The ability to work independently and manage your own workload.
- A practical, hands-on approach.
- Good written report writing skills.
- Full UK driving licence.
- Willingness to travel extensively throughout the UK and Ireland, including occasional overnight stays.

Desirable Experience
- Powder coating application training experience.
- Experience working with automated coating lines.
- Knowledge of pretreatment processes.
- Experience of quality systems or technical audits.
- Familiarity with curing ovens and application equipment.
- Basic Microsoft Office skills.
