As the Field Telecoms Engineer, you will be accountable for providing support for the smooth operations of telecoms infrastructure and will be knowledgeable in the support, design, and configuration of relevant telecoms system elements. The Team sits under the Oil & Gas business unit. The Field Telecoms Engineer will be responsible for providing operating capabilities that enable reliable and secure digital solutions for the department assets located in Scotland. These include three large terminals and plants.
Role Description:
This role is particularly focused on the design, configuration, and maintenance of HSSE critical and Operationally essential Telecom systems at onshore facilities.
As an individual contributor, the role of Field Telecoms Engineer is responsible for the following:
- Managing HSSE/Critical Equipment associated with company Upstream Emergency Communications performance standards.
- Ensure thorough run and maintain support for telecoms assets.
- Supporting network and telecoms operations, providing IT/OT assistance via server system administration, workstation, and network support in cooperation with IDT/Connectivity.
- Supporting all non-legacy and legacy telecoms systems in managed facilities, in line with applicable OLA/SLAs.
- Monitor servers, networks and communication equipment using implemented tools, systems, and applications (SolarWinds, Splunk, etc).
- Maintaining and backing up system configuration for servers and network equipment and ensure backups are stored securely.
- Executing day-to-day information security tasks related to IT/OT infrastructure, ensuring security access to assigned telecoms facilities is provisioned correctly.
- Effective configuration management by managing inventories of telecom assets, ensuring all assets are registered.
- Supporting corrective and preventative maintenance at managed facilities based on incident/fault reports/logs.
- Scheduling of maintenance plans for telecoms assets.
- Supporting compliance activities to planned schedule, ensuring close-out without compliance issues (relating to Telecom Operate Controls).
- Maintaining effective asset inventory and logical network drawings of components documenting IT/OT systems, network traffic, and data interfaces.
- Ensuring asset disposal processes are followed as appropriate.
- Ensuring governance processes and physical state of systems in managed telecoms facilities are in good condition.
- Acting as a project resource for both local IT/OT projects and discretionary work and global IT/OT security projects as demand requires.
- Recommending solutions to identified problems and ensure timely close-out of action items.

Skills & Requirements:
- Minimum 5 years’ relevant work experience in IT Operations and telecoms/network engineering.
- Bachelor’s Degree or Equivalent Certification in IT and/or Communications and Electronics system.
- Working experience of key systems - Avaya PBX, Cisco Call Manager, UHF/VHF systems, DC power systems, Crude loading/ESD systems, Aviation communications systems, Aviation lighting systems, CATV/Entertainment Systems, microwave, and LTE.
- Experience in supporting Fiber Based Telecom Infrastructure and implementing and managing IT security.
- Networking certification – preferably CCNA (Cisco Certified Network Analyst).
- Strong technical skills and experience in network device configuration (switch, router, firewall) and systems administration (Wintel, Linux).
- Exposure to PACO, Production and Operations is an advantage.
- Knowledge of Health Safety Security Environment (HSSE) processes.
- Knowledge in Business Continuity and Disaster Recovery Planning, Processes and Operations.
- Mastery and hands-on skill at configuration/support operation of Cisco network systems and SolarWinds NMS systems or similar.
- Offshore requirements such as BOSIET (Basis Offshore Safety Induction and Emergency Training) and MIST (Minimum Industry Safety training).
- COMPEX (Competency in Explosive Atmospheres) certification.
- Able to independently evaluate key business/commercial problems and to initiate and carry through on technical solutions.
- Able to interact/integrate with experts from other disciplines.
- Working effectively to deliver SLA commitments through others across many organization boundaries, including ecosystem partners (suppliers, IT team members and business leaders and team members).
- Good interpersonal skills and confident in dealing with Business stakeholders.

Special Challenges:
- The operational nature of the role will require out-of-hours working, sometimes unplanned and on call.
- Needs to be able to deal with state-of-the-art, differentiated and often unproven technologies which require some learning on the job.
- Needs to be comfortable with sometimes vague and changing scope and priorities in a rapidly changing environment.
- Ability to ensure one team mindset across the various teams to drive effective delivery.
- Flexibility to support southern notice team field telecom colleagues as part of the wider team.
This needs combining with a positive attitude and an ability to work within a large, globally dispersed project team in a multi-cultural environment. You also need to be a self-starter, a logical thinker and a quick learner, with strong initiative and excellent communication, interpersonal and presentation skills, able to write clearly and concisely.
