Introduction
The File Assessor plays a critical role within the Compliance Team by overseeing the quality and compliance of client files across the business. This position ensures that all documentation aligns with Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) requirements and company standards. The File Assessor is responsible for conducting in-depth audits, identifying risks, and collaborating with financial planners and senior management to embed a culture of compliance and excellence.

Saltus is a privately owned financial planning and discretionary investment management house. We are dedicated to providing a high-quality service for private clients, trusts, and smaller institutions.

What does this role look like?
- Conduct detailed audits on client files, with a particular focus on complex cases, ensuring suitability criteria is met, network standards are met, all documentation is accurate, complete, and compliant with FCA and company standards.
- Work closely with the advisers to provide support, ensure that any issues identified are actioned to ensure it is sufficient to enable sign off and if there is any client detriment then managing the communication around this.
- Identify potential compliance risks within client files, provide risk assessment, and escalate issues as necessary to the Compliance Manager and senior leadership.
- Communicate with advisers regarding any identified shortfalls, required actions, or learning points.
- Generate comprehensive reports highlighting trends, emerging risks, and recurring issues, and present findings to senior management.
- Contribute to the review and improvement of internal policies, ensuring alignment with regulatory requirements and industry best practices.
- Serve as a subject matter expert and mentor to other compliance staff, providing guidance on complex cases and best practices in file checking.
- Assist with training materials and sessions for compliance staff and other departments to promote adherence to high standards.
- Stay abreast of regulatory developments and proactively recommend process improvements to enhance file quality and compliance adherence.
What sort of person are you looking for?
- 3+ years in a compliance, audit, or file-checking role within financial planning, wealth management, or a similar regulated sector, with proven experience handling complex cases.
- CII Diploma in Regulated Financial Planning, Level 4 RQF, or equivalent. Progress toward further compliance certifications is preferred.
- Strong understanding of FCA requirements specific to financial planning, including suitability of advice, documentation standards, and client file requirements.
- Highly developed analytical skills, with the ability to interpret regulatory data and trends, and to influence strategic decisions within the Compliance Team.
- Excellent written and verbal communication, with experience in producing high-quality compliance reports and delivering constructive feedback to senior stakeholders.
- Exceptional organisational skills, with the ability to manage multiple audits and complex cases autonomously within set deadlines.
