Department: Claims Management

Location: Bolton

Description

The role is positioned within Casualty business unit, which deals with motor litigation exception matters up to £100k in value and offers opportunities to progress into full file handling roles.

The role of a File Handler Assistant is to support file handlers manage their caseload of Fast, Intermediate and Multi Track cases on behalf of key insurer clients, from the issue of proceedings through to Trial. Supervision and support will be provided in the role as part of our competency development framework.

There may also be a selection of non-litigated litigated cases if they fall into the appropriate remit.

All claims would be handled on behalf of the Defendant.

The role would suit either an established pre-litigation Casualty handler looking to move into litigation or junior litigator looking to progress into personal injury litigation enhancing their wider competency with a view to moving into litigating file handling.

Due to the nature of the work being handled the candidate should be able to demonstrate an ability to impress the client with the extent of their legal knowledge and provide clear unambiguous advice on the strategy for bringing a claim to its resolution

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
