Role Description
The Film and Television Lecturer will design, deliver, and assess teaching across undergraduate and postgraduate film and television programmes, ensuring engaging, industry-informed learning experiences. Day-to-day responsibilities include:

- Preparing lectures, seminars, and workshops
- Supervising student projects and dissertations
- Providing academic advising and pastoral support
- Contributing to curriculum development and review

The role also involves:
- Engaging in research or scholarly activity
- Maintaining professional and industry links
- Participating in programme administration and broader school or university initiatives
This is a full-time, on-site role based in Edinburgh, requiring regular presence on campus and collaboration with colleagues across the University.
Qualifications
- Demonstrated expertise in film and television theory, history, and practice, with the ability to teach across core and specialist modules.
- Practical experience in film or television production, such as directing, producing, screenwriting, editing, or related creative roles.
- Strong teaching, curriculum development, and student support skills, including experience with inclusive and engaging pedagogical approaches.
- Research or scholarly activity in film, television, media, or related fields, with potential to contribute to the University’s research impact.
- Excellent communication, collaboration, and interpersonal skills for working within diverse student cohorts and multidisciplinary academic teams.
- Competence in using digital tools and virtual learning environments to support teaching, assessment, and student engagement.
- A relevant postgraduate degree (normally at least a master’s level; a PhD or equivalent professional experience in film and television is highly desirable).
- Commitment to equality, diversity, and inclusion, and to supporting a positive, student-centered learning environment.
- Experience building industry connections and integrating professional practice into teaching is an advantage.
