About Boteane™

Boteane™ is a premium loose-leaf tea brand reimagining how a new generation discovers, experiences and enjoys tea.

We combine beautiful products, ingredients, storytelling and contemporary rituals to create a distinctive alternative to traditional tea culture.

We are now developing the next stage of Boteane's brand and advertising creative and are looking for a talented film, filmmaking or video production student to join us for a full-time university placement.

This is an opportunity to move beyond hypothetical student briefs and work on real creative campaigns with real products, real audiences and real advertising budgets.

Your work has the potential to be published, promoted and tested across Boteane's social and advertising channels, giving you first-hand experience of how filmmaking works within a live consumer brand.

The Opportunity

You will work directly with Boteane's founder to develop short-form film and advertising creative for social media, with a particular focus on Instagram and the Meta advertising platform.

You'll receive specific creative and commercial briefs and be responsible for helping translate those briefs into film.

That could mean researching a cultural or visual direction, developing a concept, creating a treatment and storyboard, filming products, editing multiple versions and then seeing how the resulting creative performs when it reaches a real audience.

Importantly, the process doesn't finish when something is published.

You'll have the opportunity to understand what happened after your work went live.

Which creative generated attention? Which opening hook stopped people scrolling? Which edit held attention longer? Which version drove people to explore the brand? What should we change next time?

You'll then use those insights to develop the next iteration.

This means gaining experience at the intersection of filmmaking, advertising, brand development and performance creative.

What You'll Work On

Depending on current campaigns and briefs, your work may include:

  • Interpreting real Boteane creative and advertising briefs
  • Researching visual, cultural and social-media trends
  • Developing campaign concepts and creative treatments
  • Producing mood boards, storyboards and shot lists
  • Planning shoots independently
  • Shooting Boteane products and lifestyle content
  • Creating short-form films for Instagram
  • Producing Instagram Reels
  • Creating video assets specifically for Meta advertising
  • Editing social-first video in different lengths and formats
  • Developing strong opening hooks for short-form content
  • Experimenting with pacing, sound, transitions and narrative
  • Creating multiple versions of the same creative for A/B testing
  • Working within an established brand identity while contributing new ideas
  • Responding to creative feedback and iterating work
  • Reviewing campaign performance
  • Comparing creative variants against agreed KPIs
  • Identifying what can be learned from audience behaviour
  • Applying those insights to the next campaign
  • Contributing to the continuing development of Boteane's visual identity

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

No noise. No "maybe this fits." Just roles with a clear explanation of why they're right — and where to focus when applying.

Real Advertising Experience

A particularly important part of this placement is the opportunity to see what happens when creative work moves beyond the editing suite.

Boteane runs advertising through Meta, and you'll have the opportunity to create assets intended for real paid campaigns.

That means learning to think about film not simply as something that looks beautiful, but as something that also has a job to do.

You'll begin to explore questions such as:

  • What makes somebody stop scrolling?
  • What earns another three seconds of attention?
  • Does the first frame communicate enough?
  • Does the film tell a story without sound?
  • Which creative treatment resonates with a particular audience?
  • Why did Version A outperform Version B?

You'll be encouraged to form hypotheses, create different creative executions and learn from the resulting campaign data.

The objective isn't simply to make more content. It is to become a more thoughtful and commercially aware filmmaker.

Who We're Looking For

We are looking primarily for students studying:

  • Film
  • Filmmaking
  • Film Production
  • Cinematography
  • Video Production
  • Moving Image
  • Digital Film

Or a closely related creative discipline

You should have a genuine interest in visual storytelling and want to understand how those skills can be applied within advertising and brand development.

You don't need to arrive as a fully formed commercial filmmaker.

We are looking for creative potential, visual judgement, curiosity and the ability to develop your work.

Essential Requirements

You must:

  • Be a current university student
  • Be eligible to undertake this internship through your university
  • Complete the role as part of a formal university internship or placement programme
  • Be available for a full-time placement

  • Be comfortable working remotely
  • Have experience shooting and editing video
  • Be able to work independently against an agreed brief
  • Be able to manage deadlines and communicate progress
  • Be comfortable receiving constructive creative feedback
  • Be willing to develop and iterate your work rather than treating the first version as the finished product

This is an unpaid university placement and is only open to students undertaking the opportunity through an appropriate university internship or placement programme.

Your Portfolio

A video portfolio or showreel is required for interview.

We want to see your work.

Your portfolio does not need to contain professional advertising campaigns or previous commercial clients.

University work is absolutely welcome.

You can include:

  • Short films
  • University projects
  • Social video
  • Product films
  • Music videos
  • Fashion films
  • Documentary work
  • Experimental film
  • Personal projects
  • Reels or TikTok-style content

There will be agreed meetings, campaign deadlines, reviews and collaborative sessions that you'll need to attend, but we don't believe that creative work needs to happen within arbitrary office hours.

  • Communicate clearly
  • Attend agreed meetings
  • Manage your time effectively
  • Meet agreed deadlines
  • Ask questions when something isn't clear
  • Keep the team informed of progress
  • Deliver work to the standard agreed in the brief

Holiday and time away are incorporated into the placement and planned in advance through an agreed rota, allowing us to manage campaign schedules while ensuring everyone has appropriate breaks and time away from work.

What We Want You to Leave With

By the end of the placement, our aim is for you to have something significantly more valuable than a line on your CV.

You should have a body of work that demonstrates that you have worked with a real consumer brand, interpreted commercial briefs, created published advertising assets and understood how audiences responded to your creative decisions.

Where appropriate, you'll be able to use completed work as part of your developing portfolio or showreel.

Most importantly, we want you to leave understanding how to combine your instincts as a filmmaker with the strategic and commercial thinking required to create effective advertising.

How to Apply

Please send us:

  1. A short introduction

Tell us who you are, what you're studying and what interests you about the opportunity.

  2. Your university details

Tell us your university, course and current year of study.

  3. Placement confirmation

Confirm that you are able to undertake an unpaid placement as part of your university's formal internship or placement programme.

  4. Your CV

  5. Your video portfolio or showreel

Please provide a link to examples of your work.

  6. A short note about your creative interests

Tell us what kind of filmmaking you most enjoy and what you would particularly like to develop during the placement.

Interview

Shortlisted applicants will be invited to an informal online interview.

A significant part of the conversation will be about your portfolio. We'll ask you to talk us through selected pieces, explain the thinking behind them and discuss what you would do differently now.

We're interested in your ideas and potential, not just technical perfection.

If you're excited by the idea of seeing your filmmaking move from brief → concept → production → live advertising → audience data → creative iteration, we'd love to hear from you.
