About Genetix
At Genetix, we provide targeted analysis combining environmental science, laboratory diagnostics and medical expertise to give landlords the information they need to robustly and accurately assess the level of risk that residential mould may pose to the tenant and their family.
We are a start-up and are still growing, so this is not a corporate environment with rigid processes. Our structure is flat, our founders and senior leadership are involved day to day, with far less bureaucracy than a larger business. We are a growing, highly motivated team with a shared mission.
The Role
This is a chance to join an ambitious business while at an important stage of its development. You will have the opportunity to take genuine ownership of the day-to-day accounts function, working within a small finance team and helping to establish strong, efficient and reliable financial processes as the business continues to grow.
We are looking for someone who wants genuine responsibility within a small team, with the initiative to shape the finance function around what the business actually needs and the confidence to make the role their own.
Key Responsibilities
- Maintaining accurate financial records using Xero
- Daily and monthly bank reconciliations
- Purchase and sales ledger management
- Raising and processing invoices
- Supplier payments and payment runs
- Preparation and submission of VAT returns (with oversight from external accountant)
- Processing and administration of payroll
- Preparation of monthly Management Accounts using Xero
- Balance sheet and nominal ledger reconciliations
- Supporting month-end and year-end processes
- Maintaining accurate records and supporting financial documentation
- Working alongside and supporting the Junior Accounts Clerk
- Liaising with external accountant for statutory accounting prep
- Providing accurate and timely financial information to management
- Helping to maintain and improve effective accounting processes and controls
- The business operates across more than one legal entity, and you will manage the accounts for each of them
- Improving our accounting processes and controls, not just maintaining them

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
