Job Overview
We are looking for a dynamic individual to join Ysbyty Gwynedd’s secondary care finance team (as part of the West IHC). Based in Bangor, you will work closely with our secondary care clinical and operational teams, helping to ensure our services maximise their value for money.
The successful post holder will have a full AAT or equivalent qualification or equivalent relevant experience.
The role requires an enthusiastic and motivated individual with excellent analytical, communication and interpersonal skills with a strong commitment to value and patient care.

The Finance Department is committed to personal development and training, with the potential for support towards studying for professional Accountancy Qualifications.
After training, a more hybrid way of working may be possible, with some days worked at home & some in the office but it is expected that at least 2 days per week will be based in Ysbyty Gwynedd.
Main duties of the job
- Works within the Management Accounting Finance Team, providing professional assistance and financial advice and support to managers, and undertakes investigation into complex financial variances and analysis, suggesting relevant corrective action to Health Board managers as necessary.
- To provide timely, accurate and meaningful financial management information within tight financial time-scales and ensure that work is completed in compliance with Standing Orders, Standing Financial Instructions, and Scheme of Delegation.
- The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; English and/or Welsh speakers are equally welcome to apply.

Essential criteria
- AAT or will have equivalent experience/qualification
- Finance / Accounting degree, or proven ability to work at degree level
- Evidence of continuing professional development, particularly in the areas of budget and financial management, control and reporting
Desirable criteria

Essential criteria
- Significant experience working within an NHS finance environment
- Experience of computerised financial managements systems and controls
- Significant experience of budget setting and budgetary control, including the reporting and management of variances and implementation of corrective action
- Experience of NHS accounting, including reconciliations, controls and VAT rules and guidelines
- Experience of dealing with external agencies and dealing with Audit queries and responses
Skills
Essential criteria
- The ability to effectively organise workload and work within strict deadlines.
- Excellent in the use of spreadsheets and other PC-based office applications.
- The ability to work as part of a team, achieving a corporate objective.
- Excellent communication skills
- Ability to process, analyse and interpret complex financial data, and explain the result to non-finance staff
- The ability to identify errors, resolve discrepancies and handle any problems as they arise.
- Ability to exercise judgement and control.
Desirable criteria
- The ability to communicate effectively in Welsh
Knowledge
Essential Criteria
- Understand the implication of current accounting and NHS legislation as it effects the area of work
- Knowledge of Oracle accounts financials computerised system/departmental bespoke applications and routines
- Knowledge and understanding of NHS Ring-fenced budgets and the need to report and control these accordingly and appropriately
