About The Company

The Bank of Beirut (the “Bank”) is a UK incorporated and regulated bank that provides a full range of retail, commercial and deposit taking services. It focuses on facilitating finance for import and export to corporates, businesses and Correspondent Banks operating between UK and continental Europe, Africa and the Middle East. The Bank become a UK subsidiary from 2002, having historically maintained a presence in London since 1981, and is a key player in providing banking services to the Lebanese community based in the UK and overseas. The Bank has approx. 80 London staff, with offices in the City of London and the West End.

Purpose of the Role

Daily/monthly Finance duties and the preparation of Prudential and Statutory FCA/EBA/PRA/BOE returns as well as any other Finance departmental duties including the implementation and data analysis for upcoming projects. We are looking for an accountant with a keen eye for detail and a strong technical skillset. With the introduction of a new core banking system (Temenos) we’re looking to overhaul our existing processes and need someone with the skills to analyse problems and find automated solutions. Key Responsibilities

Statutory & Management Returns/Reports

  • Prepare and assist in the production of Prudential, Statutory Statistical, Supervisory and Tax Returns to the BOE/FCA/EBA/PRA/HMRC.
  • Prepare and assist in the production of the Consolidated Reports for the Parent Bank.
  • Prepare and assist in the production of the Management Accounts and variations on a monthly basis.
  • Prepare and support production and review of management information and other reports on a monthly basis.
  • Assist in the preparation of the Banks’ Annual Financial Statements and Reports.

Daily departmental duties

  • Assist in the preparation of financial statements, reports and reconciliations.
  • Prepare/backup the reconciliation of all Nostro/Suspense accounts in accordance with agreed schedules and investigation of outstanding items by liaising with other departments.
  • Prepare, update/backup Fixed Assets and Depreciation and other Prepaid /Accruals registers at all times.
  • Ensure the timely, accurate and secure processing of day-to-day banking data such as accounting entries, account maintenance, interest rate changes and general update of data and accounting processes.

Deputising/assisting the Regulatory Reporting accountant

  • Automating tasks and processes across the department.
  • Involvement in various implementation projects relating to Core Banking systems.
  • Involvement in variation analysis in all reporting tasks.
  • Any other projects relating to regulatory reporting such as mapping and implementing any new regulatory requirements within the regulatory reporting software.

Skills, Attributes & Credentials

  • Graduate, with an accounting professional qualification or working towards one as a preference.
  • Competent IT skills. Advanced Excel and preferably experience in one programming language (SQL or Python would be an advantage).
  • Work experience requirement: Minimum 2 to 4 years’ experience gained within a financial institution or finance department or in audit practice of an Accountancy firm. Any relevant regulatory reporting experience within a Financial Institution will be considered and advantage.
  • Excellent interpersonal communication and interaction skills and ability to take direction accurately.
  • Excellent written and verbal skills.
  • Accuracy and attention to detail and pro-active manner.
  • Good overall knowledge and understanding of accounting principles and role requirements.
  • Meets strict deadlines.
  • Experience working with Temenos an advantage.
  • Experience of data mapping in reg. reporting systems incl. migrations.
  • Good working knowledge of reporting regulations and interpreting these for the population of regulatory returns.

Hours of Work

Monday to Friday 9.00am – 5.00pm (WFO)
