Role overview
You'll own the end-to-end accounting for a group of more complex business areas. This means making sure the ledger is accurate, well controlled and properly explained, from month-end close through to year-end and supporting statutory reporting. You'll be the subject matter expert for your process area. You may review manage an Assistant Analyst and you will support the offshore RTR team. A key element will be to lead improvements that make the close faster and more robust.
What you’ll do:
Entity and process ownership
- Own the month-end, quarter-end and year-end close for your entities or process area, and sign off results before they're submitted to Group.
- Review journals, accruals, provisions and complex judgement areas prepared by the team. Check that the accounting treatment follows SOX, IFRS and group policy.
- Analyse and explain P&L and balance sheet movements to Financial Controllers, FP&A and senior finance stakeholders.
Balance sheet integrity and review
- Review and approve balance sheet reconciliations, challenge aged or unexplained items, and drive them to resolution.
- Oversee intercompany matching, settlement and disputes for your entities.
- Look after your process area's technical accounting questions, such as new contracts, unusual transactions and policy changes, and escalate when needed.
Statutory reporting, audit and controls
- Act as the main contact for external auditors on your areas.
- Make sure key controls in your area are designed and operating effectively. Own the remediation of any control deficiencies.
Team leadership and development
- Act as the escalation point and reviewer for Senior Assistant Analysts as necessary and the offshore RTR team. Set clear standards for quality and documentation.
- Coach and develop colleagues through knowledge sharing, training and onboarding new team members.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
