Location: Hybrid Working

Contract: Initial 6-Month Contract

Hays are delighted to be working in partnership with a leading public sector organisation to recruit an experienced Finance and Performance Officer on an initial 6-month contract.

Reporting directly to the Operational, Finance and Performance Manager, you will play a key role in supporting the financial management and performance monitoring of the service. This is an excellent opportunity for a proactive finance professional who thrives in a fast-paced environment and enjoys combining financial analysis with performance reporting to support operational decision-making.

The successful candidate will oversee financial processes, monitor budgets and forecasts, analyse service performance data, and support the delivery of accurate and timely financial reporting.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage all aspects of the full financial cycle, including budget maintenance, monthly revenue monitoring and year-end account close activities.
  • Monitor and analyse service budgets, forecasts, income and expenditure to ensure financial targets are achieved.
  • Prepare accurate financial reports, including weekly transaction monitoring, spend approval reports, income statements and balance sheets.
  • Produce and maintain accruals and support month-end and year-end processes.
  • Prepare, review and process monthly journal entries, including ad hoc journals when required.
  • Manage accounts payable and accounts receivable activities, ensuring accuracy and compliance with financial procedures.
  • Collect, analyse and interpret financial and performance data to support service delivery and decision-making.
  • Develop management information and performance reports, providing insights and recommendations for continuous improvement.
  • Support the identification and implementation of process improvements and corrective actions.
  • Ensure high standards of data quality, record keeping and financial governance are maintained.

Essential Experience and Skills

To be considered for this role, you will possess:

  • A finance qualification or substantial relevant finance experience.
  • Proven financial management and budget monitoring experience.
  • Strong management accounting, planning, budgeting, forecasting and performance management knowledge.
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills, including pivot tables, charts, formulas and data analysis.
  • Experience producing detailed financial and management reports.
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret complex financial and performance data.
  • Experience preparing accruals, journals and supporting month-end processes.
  • Excellent organisational skills with the ability to manage competing priorities and work under pressure.
  • Strong attention to detail and a commitment to maintaining accurate financial records.
