This is an exciting opportunity to join People Pay Global, a rapidly expanding payroll business, and earn while you learn through an Accounts Assistant Level 2 Apprenticeship. Working within a supportive finance team, you'll develop practical experience using Xero and Microsoft Excel, expanding into other areas as the role progresses.

Most of your apprenticeship is spent working. You’ll learn on the job by getting hands-on experience.

What you'll do at work

This vacancy has arisen as the current Finance Apprentice has successfully progressed into a developing role within the business. As a result, we are recruiting a new Finance Apprentice to continue supporting the finance team.

What you will gain:

  • As the role progresses there will be opportunity to expand into assisting with the Month-end closing and getting involved within all other areas of the Finance department
  • On the job learning while assisting the team with their regular tasks along with any other ad-hoc requests from management
  • Ongoing support and training on successful completion of the apprenticeship offering an invaluable pathway for applicants looking for a long-term career in finance

Key Responsibilities:

  • Raise customer invoices
  • Match payments received in the bank to customer invoices
  • Apply ad-hoc charges to customer accounts
  • Record supplier invoices
  • Arrange payment of supplier invoices via online banking
  • Weekly / monthly bank reconciliations
  • Assisting with debt collection
  • Responding to customer queries
  • Other ad-hoc duties to assist the Accounts Team

Who you will be:

  • Someone who is keen to learn the finance functions within the business alongside the apprenticeship course
  • Someone who values accuracy whilst handling large volumes of transactions
  • Someone who is comfortable using a computer including Microsoft packages and be able to communicate well verbally or over email
  • Someone who can organise workloads and prioritise tasks when there are deadlines to complete them
  • Someone who can take ownership of their areas of work, whilst helping out the rest of the team during the busy month-end process

What you'll learn

Course contents

  • Record transactional data.
  • Use the organisation’s standard tools and processes to examine data to identify transactional issues, such as reconciliations and inconsistencies between invoices.
  • Recognise and rectify routine errors, escalating as necessary.
  • Plan and review accounting and finance tasks.
  • Communicate with stakeholders to deliver accurate and timely results, avoiding jargon, using language tailored to the audience, and different media methods, with an appreciation of the risks and benefits to the business of social media and other digital applications.
  • Use finance and accounting software packages to accurately input and manage data to contribute to routine accounting tasks.
  • Handle data and digital technology in line with cyber and data security requirements, using data securely and safely, including backing up data.

Desirable qualifications

  • GCSE in:
    • English (grade 4)
    • Math (grade 4)

Other requirements

Things to consider:

  • Office based role located between Chichester and Bognor Regis
  • On-site gravel car park available for drivers but there are also bus stops next to the building on the A259
  • Please only apply if you are looking to start or build a career in finance and accounting
  • This role will start immediately with the apprenticeship learning from September 2026
  • The successful applicant will demonstrate personality and ambition and be a good fit for a tight knit team
  • This is a 16-month apprenticeship (including end point assessment)
  • Applicants MUST BE free from full time education to be eligible to apply for it and have the minimum qualification level to apply for it
  • Applicants MUST BE resident in the UK for a minimum of 3 years prior to the start of learning and have work authorisation for the UK
  • Applicants WILL NOT BE eligible to apply if they have already achieved a qualification which is equal to or higher thank the apprenticeship standard on offer
  • Applicants MUST BE resident in the area local to the apprenticeship opportunity or be prepared to relocate in time to start employment and study
  • Applicants MUST BE committed to the learning and stay to the end of the apprenticeship
  • Applicants will need to be able to travel to and from main office daily and attend college one day per week in Chichester
  • Interviews will be held between 9.00am - 5.00pm, 28th August. Or any Monday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday on/after 2nd September
