Job Description: Finance Assistant Apprenticeship
Support an efficient sales ledger function by managing customer invoicing, income processing, payment receipts, credit control, account enquiries, and financial records. Completing a recognised finance apprenticeship, the role offers experience in accounting, customer service, and administration, providing a foundation for a finance career.
Role Overview
Most of your apprenticeship is spent working. You’ll learn on the job by getting hands-on experience.
Key Responsibilities
Finance System & Sales Ledger Support
- Support finance system implementation, training, and process improvements.
- Manage customer accounts, invoicing, income processing, payment receipts, and record maintenance.
Credit Control & Customer Service
- Monitor outstanding balances.
- Contact customers regarding overdue payments.
- Resolve account enquiries.
- Produce statements and maintain accurate communication records.
Financial Controls & Reporting
- Process income.
- Reconcile records.
- Prepare debtor reports.
- Support stock takes, audits, and monthly reconciliations, ensuring accuracy and compliance.
Team & Compliance
- Provide administrative support.
- Complete apprenticeship requirements.
- Develop finance system skills.
- Ensure compliance with financial regulations, GDPR, health & safety, confidentiality, and equality policies.
Course Contents
- Record transactional data.
- Use the organisation’s standard tools and processes to examine data to identify transactional issues, such as reconciliations and inconsistencies between invoices.
- Recognise and rectify routine errors, escalating as necessary.
- Plan and review accounting and finance tasks.
- Communicate with stakeholders to deliver accurate and timely results, avoiding jargon, using language tailored to the audience, and different media methods, with an appreciation of the risks and benefits to the business of social media and other digital applications.
- Use finance and accounting software packages to accurately input and manage data to contribute to routine accounting tasks.
- Handle data and digital technology in line with cyber and data security requirements, using data securely and safely, including backing up data.

Apprenticeship Details
The successful candidate will undertake the Accounts/Finance Assistant Level 2 Apprenticeship leading to the AAT Level 2 Certificate in Accounting through Access Training Ltd, Gateshead.
Training will normally be provided on a day release basis. Subject to successful completion, satisfactory performance, and organisational requirements, there may be an opportunity to progress onto the Level 3 Assistant Accountant Apprenticeship (AAT Level 3) and continue a career within the Finance Team.
Qualifications Required

GCSE in:
- English (grade 4)
- Maths (grade 4)

GCSE in:
- Business Studies (grade 4)
- ICT (grade 4)
