Greenergy Finance Apprentice
Greenergy are looking to hire a Finance Apprentice! Whilst studying towards AAT qualifications, the apprentice will start in the transaction teams - spend 9 months in sales ledger and 9 months in purchase ledger, then move to duty or VAT team, and then spend the last rotation in accounting team. Duties Include:
Sales Ledger Duties:
- Maintain all operational aspects of the Sales Ledger and the specific allocated customer accounts.
- Handling and resolving queries in a timely manner through effective communication, and liaising with internal and external stakeholders.
- Proactively seeking to improve or create processes that benefit all involved parties.
- Maintaining a high level of customer service and ensuring that all service level agreements are complied with.
Month end duties
- Raising daily, weekly and monthly invoices from across the Greenergy group – a combination of automated and manual invoicing depending on complexity of the customer.
- Reconciling data from multiple sources, ensuring data is correct to allow invoices to be raised by the automated Invoicing system.
- Ensure the daily invoicing checks are completed prior to posting and instil the culture of getting things right first time.
- Maintenance and verification of Sales Ledger data, including customer volume reconciliations if needed.
Purchase ledger duties:
- Maintain all operational aspects of the Purchase Ledger and the specific allocated supplier accounts. Including but not limited to: Fuel purchases, Esso Cards, Demurrage, Greenergy America purchases, Greenergy Asia, Greenergy Terminals, GRINT, Biofuels and Flexigrid.
- Being the account manager for a portfolio of suppliers within the team with a focus on excellent customer service.
- The handling and resolution of queries, liaising with internal and external customers.
- Proactively seek to improve or create new processes that benefit all parties.
- Ensuring all aspects of Customer Service Level Agreements are completed.
- Processing of daily, weekly and monthly invoices from Greenergy suppliers, using agreed work streams to maintain a clean Purchase Ledger.
- Reconciling data from multiple sources, debit balances and unapproved invoices are at a minimum, and all volumes are reviewed for efficiency and accuracy.
- Managing the Purchase Ledger reporting outputs, including; Cash flows, Overdue reports, GRNI, etc.
- Maintenance and verification of Purchase Ledger Month End close processes, including Accruals calculations and postings, and the reconciliation of Accounts Payable to GL.

Most of your apprenticeship is spent working. You’ll learn on the job by getting hands-on experience.
Apprenticeships include time away from working for specialist training. You’ll study to gain professional knowledge and skills.
Course contents:
- Assist with the investigation of, and response to, financial information queries.
- Record and analyse financial data using the organisation’s standard tools and processes.
- Apply double entry bookkeeping and accounting standards to process financial documents, generate financial statements, and report financial information to users of accounts.
- Assist with production of accurate financial information for the preparation of accounts.
- Reconcile financial data, such as preparation of reconciliations or review of reconciliations.
- Investigate, resolve, or escalate transactional queries and errors within their remit as appropriate.
- Develop and maintain effective working relationships with stakeholders.
- Communicate financial information in a way that non-finance stakeholders can interpret and understand.
- Utilise digital skills to present key financial information using finance and accounting software and applications.
- Use software packages to assist with basic accounting tasks in line with cyber and data security requirements, using data securely and safely, including backing up data.
- Communicate using a range of approaches and media, with an understanding of the risks and benefits to the business of social media and other digital applications.
Training schedule:
- You will have time in your working week dedicated to your studies, some of which will be spent with The Apprentice Academy.
- Greenergy will also provide you time to work on revision for any upcoming exams and to complete any administrative tasks set by the Academy or required for your Apprenticeship.
- You will be working towards AAT qualifications.
Desirable qualifications:
- GCSE in:
- English (grade C/4)
- Maths (grade C/4)
Share if you have other relevant qualifications and industry experience. The apprenticeship can be adjusted to reflect what you already know.
What you will need to succeed:
- The ability to maintain excellent attention to detail in a fast-paced, high-pressured environment.
- A high level of organisation and motivation, with the ability to work to multiple deadlines and to prioritise workloads calmly and effectively.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, and the ability to develop trusting and credible relationships with all levels of the business.
- The ability to reconcile data from multiple sources and the confidence to challenge discrepancies should they arise.
- A flexible and adaptable attitude. Understanding the overall goals of the team, you will have the ability to use your initiative, challenge the status quo and actively consider new ways of working in order to achieve them.
- Ambition, enthusiasm and wanting to progress within a reputable and fast moving organisation.
- A good level of IT literacy including competency with all aspects of Microsoft Office but with advanced Excel abilities.
- Some knowledge or prior experience of accounting and finance, including month end close.
